Sad news for Bethenny Frankel fans. She and her husband, Jason Hoppy, have announced their separation. They've been married two years and have a daughter, Brynn. Bethenny and Jason have lived their entire marriage in the public eye in two reality series, most recently Bethenny Ever After. Viewers of the pair have always known they've had a bit of a rocky relationship, but there seemed to be a lot of love and commitment there too. So what happened?
About the split, Bethenny said:
This was an extremely difficult decision that as a woman and a mother, I have to accept as the best choice for our family. We have love and respect for one another and will continue to amicably co-parent our daughter who is and will always remain our first priority. This is an immensely painful and heartbreaking time for us.
The former Real Housewives star is a chef, entrepreneur, and founder of Skinnygirl Cocktails, and has always been extremely ambitious. Not to mention the breadwinner. Jason? Not so much. That really seemed to weigh on them both after awhile. "She's very focused, but he's just not driven," a source told US Weekly. The tension seemed to mount after Bethenny sold Skinnygirl, making her a very rich woman.
I'm not a regular viewer of the show, but I remember seeing an episode where the two were having dinner and all they could talk about were the differences in their paychecks. The tension was palpable. I could tell right there it was going to be a difficult ride. But Bethenny also seemed so grateful to finally have a family, and I saw plenty of scenes where Jason accepted her wholeheartedly for who she was.
But the end seemed near when Bethenny appeared on Watch What Happens Live and, when asked how Jason was, replied, "I don't know, he's always on golf trips." They also reportedly spent months apart over the summer.
I guess a lot of people saw this one coming from the get-go, but I'd held out hope for them. Who knows, since they haven't actually filed for divorce, maybe there's still hope. Stranger things have happened!
