Bethenny Frankel & Jason Hoppy Announce Their Separation For Real

by Kiri Blakeley on December 24, 2012 at 9:32 AM

Sad news for Bethenny Frankel fans. She and her husband, Jason Hoppy, have announced their separation. They've been married two years and have a daughter, Brynn. Bethenny and Jason have lived their entire marriage in the public eye in two reality series, most recently Bethenny Ever After. Viewers of the pair have always known they've had a bit of a rocky relationship, but there seemed to be a lot of love and commitment there too. So what happened?

About the split, Bethenny said:

This was an extremely difficult decision that as a woman and a mother, I have to accept as the best choice for our family. We have love and respect for one another and will continue to amicably co-parent our daughter who is and will always remain our first priority. This is an immensely painful and heartbreaking time for us.

The former Real Housewives star is a chef, entrepreneur, and founder of Skinnygirl Cocktails, and has always been extremely ambitious. Not to mention the breadwinner. Jason? Not so much. That really seemed to weigh on them both after awhile. "She's very focused, but he's just not driven," a source told US Weekly. The tension seemed to mount after Bethenny sold Skinnygirl, making her a very rich woman.

I'm not a regular viewer of the show, but I remember seeing an episode where the two were having dinner and all they could talk about were the differences in their paychecks. The tension was palpable. I could tell right there it was going to be a difficult ride. But Bethenny also seemed so grateful to finally have a family, and I saw plenty of scenes where Jason accepted her wholeheartedly for who she was.

But the end seemed near when Bethenny appeared on Watch What Happens Live and, when asked how Jason was, replied, "I don't know, he's always on golf trips." They also reportedly spent months apart over the summer.

I guess a lot of people saw this one coming from the get-go, but I'd held out hope for them. Who knows, since they haven't actually filed for divorce, maybe there's still hope. Stranger things have happened!

Are you surprised by this news?

When she was pissed that he threw her a suprise party and she was nasty in front of everyone, I knew it wasnt going to last. I had hoped that they would make it.

Knew it wouldn't last from day 1. My family has known her family for years and she was always crazy, even when she was a teenager

Fleur, is her family as nasty as she says it was? She doesn't speak to her family.

Bills, her mother is off the wall insane. Must be where Bethenny gets it. Her biological father isn't a bad guy; he was just very involved with his work and not so muh a family man. Her parents divorced when she was still a kid, and she gave her stepfather absolute hell when she was a teenager

I meant "wasn't a bad guy", since her father has since passed on.

No, not surprised at all. Obviously, he should have realized who he was marrying but he seemed to want a more traditional marriage like his parents have. It always made me sad when she didn't really want to be a part of or understand how much his parents wanted to see Brynn and how much they meant to him .... especially since his brother passed away. Family is so important and it seems that because of the way she was raised she just doesn't get it it. Sad for everyone. :(

This breaks my heart. They were good for each other. Bethenny seems to push away everything she loves. I really hope Bethenny gets the counceling she needs to work on her issues and makes this work. He really is a great guy and is good for her.
