A Senator from West Virginia is so appalled by the new MTV show Buckwild -- which is apparently something like if the Jersey Shore cast moved into Honey Boo Boo's house -- that he's demanded that MTV cancel the show. Hmmm ... I wonder if MTV wrote up that press release letter for Senator Joe Manchin? Because, really, there is no better way to guarantee that a show get a lot of attention and high ratings as there is for it to create so much fuss that people start demanding its cancellation -- you know, just like happened with the Jersey Shore. Gov. Chris Christie and Italian-American groups were vocal opponents of Snooki & Co. Which basically guaranteed it was a huge hit.
The Senator wrote to MTV:
As a proud West Virginian, I am writing to formally request that you put a stop the travesty called "Buckwild." Instead of showcasing the beauty of our state, you preyed on young people, coaxed them into shameful behavior -- and now you are profiting from it. That is just wrong ... This show plays to ugly, inaccurate stereotypes about the people of West Virginia.
Wait, he really thought MTV was coming to West Virginia to film a travelogue?! Had he ever HEARD of MTV?! C'mon. Senators are stupid, but they're not that stupid. He must have known that MTV + West Virginian teenagers probably did not = TV show about the beauty of the Appalachian Mountains and the grace and intelligence of the local teen population (does this sound like any MTV show EVER?!). I'm going to take a (buck)wild guess and say that the Senator knew exactly what was being filmed in his homestate -- and couldn't be more thrilled about it. If the show is anything like the hit that Jersey Shore was, there'll soon be millions in tourist revenue to plump up the West Virginian coffers -- and MTV to thank.
Now let's all sit back and see if which West Virginian hellraiser becomes Snooki, which The Situation, and if mud-splattered T-shirts become all the rage.
Will you watch Buckwild?
