It's the American way to dream of being a celebrity. But if the whole hullabaloo over Charlie Sheen's ex-wife Brooke Mueller being rushed to the hospital is any indication, it's much easier wallowing in obscurity. The mother of Sheen's twin sons is busy today fighting allegations that she overdosed on drugs.
Mueller actually has a toxicology report that she's showing off to prove there were no drugs in her system yesterday, even though she was found unresponsive by her assistant. Can you imagine?
Brooke says she wasn't using drugs; she was just exhausted after a jewelry making bender (TMZ's term, not ours), and her assistant has apologized for mentioning the mother of two's past drug use in the 911 call. Considering she was released from the hospital within hours of being admitted, it sounds like the truth.
But I still can't get over the way this whole thing went down. Most of us get rushed to the hospital and it's all "OMG, are you OK?" Celebrity gets rushed to the hospital, and the first thing she has to do is produce the toxicology report that proves she wasn't strung out.
Relationship to Charlie Sheen not withstanding, what happened to giving people a little sympathy? If she was hospitalized for exhaustion, particularly, the first thing Brooke should have in mind today is getting some rest ... not tracking down the tabloids to make sure they know the real story. I'm not knocking her for doing so; it's her reputation on the line, and no doubt this would become fodder in some famous custody battle. But this whole debacle certainly makes me glad to be a nobody.
How about you? Do you feel bad for Brooke today?
