Psy of 'Gangnam Style' Fame Has an Anti-American Past (VIDEO)

This Just In 28

psy gangnam styleSouth Korean pop star PSY rocketed to international popularity over the summer with his surprise hit “Gangnam Style,” which recently became the most watched video on YouTube of all time.

How could it not? The video is AWESOME. The music is catchy and makes you want to dance, PSY’s giddy-up style dance moves are hilarious, and the whole thing just makes you smile. SNL even did a skit on the feel-good nature of the song, playing it whenever one of the characters felt sad. PSY has become such a sensation that he’s been scheduled to appear at a D.C. charity concert this month with President Obama in attendance.

It’s the song that just makes you happy. Which is why the following news just plain sucks: PSY might be profoundly anti-American.

Over the past ten years, PSY has been filmed on stage smashing a miniature U.S. tank, as well as singing about killing the “fucking Yankees.”

In 2004, he rapped as part of an anti-American protest against the war in Iraq:

Kill those fucking Yankees who have been torturing Iraqi captives
Kill those fucking Yankees who ordered them to torture
Kill their daughters, mothers, daughters-in-law and fathers
Kill them all slowly and painfully

Kill them all slowly and painfully? Mothers and daughters? Regardless of your opinion on the Iraqi War, surely we don’t all need to die. Heck, we had our fair share of protesters over here!

Should President Obama reconsider PSY’s invitation? He is the commander-in-chief of our armed forces -- some of whom, by the way, keep South Koreans safe by keeping psycho North Korean dictators in check -- he doesn't need to be partying with an America-hater.

Maybe. Maybe not. After the news came out, PSY issued an apology for his “inflammatory and inappropriate language,” and praised American servicemen and women for their valor in protecting freedom South Korea and around the world. Party on, PSY! You’re ok in my book. Meanwhile, let this be a lesson to us all to choose our words carefully.

Do you think PSY's apology is sincere?

Surprise! A great many people in other countries do not like Americans or what they do.

The way in which America behaves in an oh so arrogant "America is above the law" manner is a reason people outside the US do not like America.

The way Americans behave when they are outside the US is another reason people do not like Americans. - I literally sat on a bus in Israel and heard an American say "Didi can you believe there are all the Jews around us?"

OH, and there are a lot of born Americans who do not like the behavior of America overseas in terms of torturing prisoners and trying to tell other nations how to conduct their internal affairs.

You are absolutey shitting out the crazy articles lately. Is it some sort of bet?

When I heard this, i was dissapointed.  but he apologized.   i believe it is sincere.  if he does it again, then he wasnt truthful in his apology.

Nellie- there is a difference between thinking America is above the law and believing in American exceptionalism.  We live in the best country in the world and we shouldn't have to apologize for it.  I have seen people from other countries act crappy here and Americans act crappy here, but I am not about to make blanket statements about not liking all people from other countries or this country because of it.  That is just silly!  Using case-in-points to defend generalizations is fallacious. (If you don't know what that means, buy a logic book off Amazon.)  The Jew example is also irrelevant because it has nothing to do with nationality, it is a matter of religion!  There are a large number of Jewish Americans and that woman could have made the exact same comment on many a bus in America.

Oh my gosh Nellie, I've heard that in Israel too! I've also heard talk of "dirty spics" while IN MEXICO!!! But lots of times that's British people and Canadians too. Just cause one person is ignorant doesn't mean all Americans (or Brits or Canadians) act that way, and I don't think it's fair that people from other countries judge us for the words of a few morons.

On another note, I could forgive him.

CrystalFoose: just to play devils advocate...why do you believe in American exceptionalism? What data can you present to prove the hypothesis that America is the greatest country in the world? Is it possible that it is no longer great and that some people dislike the States because they announce proudly that they are "the greatest country in the world and shouldn't have to apologize for it," but really they are not the greatest?

Jessy, we are no longer great, thanks in part to attitudes like yours. Pathetic.

Tuffymama: I apologize if I gave the impression that any of those questions were my own opinion. I was asking them out of curiosity to see how other people feel. How do you feel about those questions ? How would you respond to them if they were asked by a non-American looking to hear why America is the greatest nation?

That's disgusting and sorry doesn't cut it. He's banned from my home. No more times will his songs play here.

well @jessy, i'm not american, and i certainly don't view america as being the ''greatest country in the world''. I don't think any one country is the greatest, even my own, and i think that kind of mindset is rather childish. Every country has it's own merits and downfalls.
