I've now taken 36 dares for "I'll Take That Dare," and this week's dare goes down as the roughest, toughest one yet.
Being a roller derby queen is MUCH harder than it looks.
Click through to see the video, then tell me in the comments whether you'd try out for a roller derby team!
Ouch!
All I can tell you is that when I got home that day, I literally felt like I had been beaten up -- and that was pretty much the truth.
These girls were ROUGH!
Despite the difficulties, roller derby was really fun, and it would be tempting to start training with the team. Real tryouts require months (not hours!) of training beforehand. There's only one problem.
I haven't got time for the pain.
As fun as roller derby can be, there were a lot of injuries among this group. The thought of breaking a bone or spraining my back is going to keep me off the concrete. It's not that I'm afraid of the pain -- I'm afraid of not being able to take care of my kids!
If I were still single and in my 20s, though, I'd TOTALLY want to be a roller derby queen in my spare time!
How about you?

I am 39, with 4 kids and a full time job and play roller derby in San Diego. I can't stress how much it has changed my life for the better- it is hard to balance it all but it is the best thing I have ever done! I never played sports but I was facinated by roller derby and decided to give it a shot over a year ago and have never looked back. To see what your body is capable of and the confidence you get is amazing. I now have 20 sisters that have my back and are there for me anytime for any reason and as we are all mothers our kids get to grow up together. The derby widows (our men) all get along, hang out with us and support us in the most amazing ways. He is so proud of me, and loves the changes that have happened in me since I joined. We have girls on the team that are over 50. I recommend it for everyone to try- it will change your life!!!! Hellvira #138 Hidden City Derby Girls
"Roll derby queen" is a weird term you keep using - I've been playing two years and never heard a real player say that... we're just "roller derby players" - or "athletes" ;)
Roller Derby Queen is a song from the 70's, no we aren't called that but others still use the term. We play it at our after parties and everyone sings along. Harmless.
I would be afraid to break something! Looks like fun but I would want more padding (than my big hips!)
