Sometimes a piece of seemingly inconsequential celebrity news becomes such a hot ticket media item, it makes you wonder if all of us are in dire need of a meaningful hobby. Then again, sometimes it's incredibly obvious why certain topics become so popular, because hello, OVERALLS. Justin Bieber wore OVERALLS when he met Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper. OMG!!!
Not only was Bieber dressed down in a pair of half-undone overalls, he was wearing a backwards baseball cap. Is it any surprise this shocking state of affairs is being referred to as an "international Twitter incident"?
Okay, that particular word choice is maybe a little surprising, but what's even more ridiculous is Bieber's overly defensive reaction to the critics who say he maybe should have re-strategized his wardrobe choice. After getting slammed online and specifically in a Daily Mail article that referred to him as a "white trash prince," Bieber fired back via Instagram:
The pic of me and the Prime Minister was taken in a room in the arena where i was performing at that day. I walked straight from my meet and greet to him, if you "Hayley" (the Daily Mail reporter) expect me to have a change of clothes let a loan a suit at that specific time that's crazy, It wasn't like it was like I was going into his environment we were at a hockey arena. Wow am i ever white trash hayley peterson lol
Well, Young Master Bieber, I must say that your spelling ("let a loan" your grammar) is not really helping your case.
Personally I think Bieber looks pretty goofy in that photo, but then again I'm a frumpy mom who's currently wearing a pair of ratty yoga pants, so I really can't criticize anyone's fashion choices. The thing is, he couldn't have been that surprised at the reaction to the image, could he? I mean, there he is at a national ceremony with Canadian Prime Minister being awarded a Diamond Jubilee Medal, and he's wearing a pair of overalls that appear to be falling off his body.
Bieber's caption for this image: "I met the Prime Minister in overalls lol" LOL indeed.
As the Daily Mail (hilariously) added,
Bieber accessorized with stud earrings, a long silver neck chain and a black wide-brimmed baseball hat, which he strategically turned backwards so a small tuft of his golden locks would be visible from the front.
A SMALL TUFT OF HIS GOLDEN LOCKS. Ha!
Anyway, the Daily Mail was hardly the only media outlet to snark on Bieber's wardrobe, so I'm not sure why Bieber chose to respond only to them. I mean, Gawker's writeup was way harsh, Tai:
Look at Bieber's expression in that picture above. His smile is practically screaming, "I'm trolling you so hard right now and there's nothing you can do about it. I am 18 and you can't tell me how to dress. I am youth personified and you are very old."
While I think Justin Bieber should have taken half a second to at LEAST button his overalls, "let a loan" refrain from lashing out when the criticism rolled in, it seems the PM is on his side:
In fairness to @justinbieber, I told him I would be wearing my overalls too. #cdnpoli #beliebers.
Now that would have been a newsworthy photo.
What do you think of Justin Bieber's outfit? Is it fair that he's getting flack for wearing overalls to meet the PM?
