Khloe Kardashian & Lamar Odom's Thanksgiving Apart Doesn't Hint at a Divorce

by Maressa Brown on November 19, 2012 at 5:45 PM

khloe kardashianKhloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom have been ditching and hiding from divorce rumors for a while now, so Khloe's confirmation that she won't be spending Thanksgiving with her hubs this year? Clearly NOT helping to make the case that the two are still blissfully in love and happier than ever before. Her explanation to People about the time apart isn't exactly helping either. Khloe said, "Honestly, I'm fine with it, because I'm obsessed with my husband -- in a healthy way -- but he's on the road. He has a game in Brooklyn, so I don't feel guilty, like, 'I'm not going to be able to cook for him!'" Sounds a liiiittle defensive, eh?

And yet, at the same time, I gotta hand it to Khloe for embracing some seriously down-to-earth, good-natured spousal values. After all, sometimes, you have no choice but to spend time apart, even on occasions or holidays when you're without question "supposed to" be together.

Khloe went onto explain Lamar's plans:

So, he’ll be on the road. He’ll be working anyway. So, I feel better about that, and my sister Kim will be here. And I think my mom will come here that night, too. Thanksgiving at The X Factor!

Okay, so it's not ideal. But it's also life. Sometimes work or illness, family matters, basically circumstances out of your control get in the way and prevent you from having that picture perfect Rockwellian Thanksgiving with your significant other. And what's a wife to do then? Beat herself up for not being able to do the full-on June Cleaver holiday spread for her husband? PffftNo way!

Sometimes you just have to roll with the punches and make the best of the situation. Even if that means going to his parents' instead of yours this year, or spending Thanksgiving at home when you were planning on going out, or having Thanksgiving with your mom and sister instead. And in the end, ideally, you find you're stronger as a couple for it.

In Khloe and Lamar's case, all right, let's not be naive. Sure, their Thanksgiving apart could be a sign of deeper issues on the horizon. But it could also just be two adults making the best of a less than ideal situation. Here's hoping, for their marriage's sake, it's the latter.

Have circumstances beyond your control ever kept you and your S.O. from celebrating Thanksgiving or another holiday together?

I'm not buying it.   A basketball game is two or three hours tops and unlike a lot of jobs,   she can actually go watch him work... like the other people who will go to his game.    Either the bliss is off the rose or she's selfish.

There were very legitimate reasons that my husband couldn't be with us last year for Thanksgiving... but these people have the money and the means to make whatever they want to happen, happen. I don't necessarily believe this means divorce is on the horizon- but it does tell me that they've decided that being together for this occasion was more work than they were willing to put forth.

this year was going to be the first year it happened to us. my husband was called to work out of the area (about an 8 hour drive away) for three weeks. he's missing thanksgiving, as well as my birthday. i'm not going to sugar coat it, it sucks. we haven't been apart this long in a really long time, let alone a holiday. so the kids and i are going to be packing up and making the long drive to his hotel while he's working. we'll have to find a restaurant open on thanksgiving that isn't fast food. but our family will be together. :)

i think if you really want to put effort into whatever plans you make, then that's what counts. if we hadn't been able to go up, we'd be having an amazing christmas dinner together instead. you just have to make it work.

I'm with Nancy. He might have a game in Brooklyn on Thursday, but the teams' travel schedule could also keep him from spending the night in Brooklyn, hence why would Khloe spend a ticket to Brooklyn if he's not even going to be there the whole night? Just because they have the money doesn't mean that they can blow it on any whim. Money doesn't last forever, and Khloe being the smartest and most humble one from the fam, I'm sure she realizes this. Plus, who knows what Khloe's schedule is, as well? Mama Kris can keep them busy!
