Ooh, interesting news from The Walking Dead creators: a brand new character is set to appear in the eighth episode of season 3, and while no one's naming any names, the big hint is that this person is a "fan favorite" from the comics.
It's been a while since I've read the comics, but I have one major guess as to who this character might be. If you want to join me in the speculation, read on -- otherwise, stop now if you don't want to get into spoiler territory! (If you haven't read the comics, I don't think it would actually ruin your viewing experience to hear about who we might be meeting, but fair warning and all that.)
Okay! Potential spoilers in 3 ... 2 ... 1 ...
So the person I'm thinking of is Tyreese. I mean, if you HAVE read the comics, are you with me? Who else could it be at this point? I can't think of another character that fits this teaser from Robert Kirkman:
There’s a new character added. A big deal fan favorite from the comic book is introduced into the show in this episode, so be on the lookout for that.
There are plenty of other characters we've yet to meet, but a "big deal fan favorite"? Gotta be Tyreese. Plus, while nobody's officially confirmed anything, he's on the Walking Dead wiki as an upcoming character played by actor Chad Coleman. According to the Examiner, Coleman has actually been spotted in Atlanta recently, and has long been rumored as a possible choice for Tyreese.
Tyreese as he's portrayed in the comics is a former football player who's super athletic, has strong leadership qualities, and becomes Rick's right hand man. Tyreese, along with Hershel and Dale, form a sort of leadership committee when it becomes apparent that Rick's under a little too much pressure as the sole head honcho.
Here's what Tyreese looked like in the comics:

And here's Chad Coleman as he appeared in The Wire:

Damn. Give that casting director a biscuit!
Tyreese is also a bit of a ladies' man, so ... we might see something happening between him and Michonne (or ... Carol). He also had a daughter in the comics which led to a VERY unpleasant storyline, and of course there was the really nasty stuff with the Governor, and --
Well, who knows how closely they'll follow the comics, but I'd bet big money it'll be Tyreese that we'll see on the eighth episode, which airs December 2. As characters on the show go, he ought to be a good one, because as Kirkman wrote in a pivotal issue of the comics,
Tyreese has been one of my favorite characters in the book for a long time.
What do you think, zombie fans? If you've read the comics, do you have any different guesses for who it is we'll meet on December 2?

I thought they killed Carol off in the episode before the last in the show?
I love Chad Coleman. He was so good in the Wire. FYI, they never showed Carol's body or death. She's still alive. Hopefully she will rescue herself as opposed toone of the boys.
I caught that mentioning of Carol, too! I think she's still alive. In the trailer for this Sunday's episode, they showed Daryl looking at a walker that had Carol's knife in its neck. She could be hiding inthat maze of a jail cell somewhere. I have yet to read the comics, but I am definitely looking forward to how it plays out!
