Channing Tatum Tells His Wife About 'Sexiest Man' Honor in Surprisingly Sexy Way
I have a suggestion for People magazine: the Sexiest Man Alive issue should be renamed to Hottest Man Alive. That seems a little more accurate, given the fact that it's really about the (Usually White) Man Whose Box Office Draw is Heating Up, and maybe we'd be less likely to say things like, Channing Tatum? Sexy, okay, but sexiest man alive? BRING US THE GOSLING AND BRING HIM NOW.
I don't dislike Channing Tatum, but he'd never be my personal pick for sexiest man. That said, as soon as I read about how he broke the news about the People honor to his wife, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, his Sexy Points increased for me by about 1,000.
It's almost enough to make me forgive him for G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. ALMOST.
According to Dewan-Tatum, her husband shared the big news while they were -- wait for it -- cleaning skunk spray off their dogs.
Our dogs were being skunked every other night for about two months straight, so this was a very normal occurrence, to be kneeling in front of the bathtub washing our dogs. He was like, 'Oh, by the way, I was named PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive...' Is that not the strangest way to tell me this news? I'm not quite sure why the skunk smell made him think about it. Maybe it was the fact that it was the last thing something the Sexiest Man Alive would be doing. But I don't know. Maybe it was the sexy skunk musk that made him think of it.
Okay, that's just adorable. I don't know, I just love the idea of the two of them being immersed in a fairly gross domestic task, and Tatum's like, Hey, bee tee dubs, I guess I'm officially the sexiest man on the planet. Can you pass the tomato juice? There's extra skunk funk around Rover's butthole. A humble, low-maintenance guy who actually digs his wife? Totally sexy.
His wife went on to to say that she's super proud of her man and what he's accomplished:
It says he's achieved so much in his career and in his life that makes this award a possibility. But he's always been the Sexiest Man Alive to me.
Yeah, she's got the right attitude about this award -- it's less about actual physical attractiveness, and more about an actor's success in Hollywood. I don't think anyone would say Channing Tatum has the best acting chops in the business, but he's been knocking out blockbusters lately, and he's got 7 more movies in the pipeline. Not bad for a guy who once hip-hopped his way through the abominably-reviewed Step Up.
Which is, by the way, where he met his wife. Just look at these two:
