I think I was too young when I first saw The Wizard of Oz, because to this day, the thought of that movie gives me the creeps. Witches, tornadoes, and small people singing? No thanks. That's why when I heard that Disney's making a prequel to the book and subsequent 1939 movie called Oz: The Great and Powerful, I knew it'd be creepy de ja vu all over again. And I was right. Witches, tornadoes, and James Franco's wry smile? No thanks. Check out the new trailer for Oz: The Great and Powerful, set to be released in March 2013, and see what you think.
If you were wondering, yes, that's Mila Kunis as the witch Theodora, Michelle Williams as the good witch Glinda, and Rachel Weisz as Evanora.
James Franco plays a circus performer who thinks he might be the wizard of Oz. In order to prove himself, he's got to defeat the Wicked Witch of the West. Along the way he encounters a talking monkey (voice provided by Zach Braff), a live doll (shudder), and a bevy of other whimsically nightmarish creatures.
This isn't up my alley (childhood scars and all), but what do you think? Looking forward to it?
