Catherine Zeta-Jones went public with her battle with bipolar disorder earlier this year. Now the star is sharing more about her struggle in the new issue of In Style.
"It's been a intense time, in good ways and bad," she revealed. It is an exceptionally brave move for any celebrity. The illness, characterized by extreme emotional highs and lows, is especially difficult if in the public eye and under constant scrutiny. "You can't escape what people say, and if you're human it can be painful," she said. "The smartest thing I did was t stop going online. I'm the sort of person who will just look for the negative."
Her hope is that being open about her diagnosis will help fellow sufferers understand that this can be conquered. "I hope I can help remove any stigma attached to it," she said. "And that those who didn't have it under control will seek help with all that is available to treat it."
