When I was a kid, I thought being a zookeeper would be so much fun! I'd ride on elephants, feed giraffes, and play with monkeys all day long -- BEST JOB EVER.
Well, as it turns out, the job is NOTHING like I had imagined it. For the latest episode of "I'll Take That Dare," I was a zookeeper for a day, and you won't BELIEVE the things I had to do! Seriously! I still shudder just thinking about it!
Check out the video -- after the jump!
Roaches, rats, crickets, worms, and bats ...
WHO KNEW?
I definitely have a newfound respect for zookeepers. They've got nerves of steel!
So now that you've seen what it's REALLY like to be a zookeeper, would you try it? Let me know in the comments!

;). The real frightening thing about that job is the paycheck!
In order to work in a ZOO and actually work with the animals you have to take 4 yrs of Zoology just to ba able to feed those animals I know because I applied or tried to apply for a Zoo keeper position. I figured since I had worked with cattle,Horses and every type of animal I could just walk into a Zoo keeper job, Nope had to have taken at least 4 yrs of Zoology other wise you just got to clean empty cages and wash food dishes.
LOOOOOOOOOOOVED the bats! Linda you missed an opportunity to see those cuties up close! OMG!
However I would have had a hard time chopping up worms and .....dealing with feeding the snakes....I wouldn't mind the snake so much...but that bait....Yeeeeeeeeeuck!
And that frog sure looked happy after having it's meal of cockroaches...*S*
Great video - it would be fun to see more from your zoo experience.
You literally did all the fun things. They didn't have you mucking out stalls, or vacuuming pools, or cleaning holding areas.
Sorry, but picking up sqirmy roaches, crickets, and dead rats and cutting up live worms is definitely NOT my idea of "fun!" Mucking out stalls and cleaning holding areas would have been infinitely preferable! I'm a mom- poop does not faze me!
