Growing up, there were certain shows my tween self never wanted to miss. You know, Sabrina, the Teenage Witch and Full House for starters. But my No. 1 favorite? Boy Meets World. That Ben Savage, yeah, he was funny, but oh god Rider Strong? He was SO my teenybopper crush. Get this: There's a Boy Meets World spinoff in the works called Girl Meets World, and some of the original cast members MAY be coming back.
The show will focus on Cory and Topanga's preteen daughter, and rumor has it that Savage and Danielle Fishel are first in line to come back as their classic characters. Danielle even hinted at the idea that she and Ben have officially signed on. And get this: Lily Nicksay, who used to play Cory's younger sister, is interested in coming on board, too.
Am I excited for the spinoff? Yes -- but ONLY if they all come back. Bring me back to John Adams High, STAT.
Giving the classic show a makeover on the Disney Channel is dangerous. The former audience, who are mostly adults now, isn't going to be really into it because, well, the show's marketed at a younger audience. I bet Disney is hoping that the old school fans tune in until the show starts to click with the new younger ones. Without the old cast, though, it just wouldn't be the same.
Hey, it has potential -- I'm just not sure if they'll have the same appreciation for it not knowing what happened back in the days when Eric Matthews chased after Mr. Feeny's younger niece (played by Keri Russell). Oh, the memories. I guess all I can do is hope for cameos from Rider and pray that Feeny is still teaching the sixth grade.
Remember the good ol' days with me, will ya? Check out one of the Boy Meets World opening theme songs from its seven-season run, here:
