Twilight fans, I'm sure you've been hearing some of the talk about Breaking Dawn 2's surprise ending, right? Kristen Stewart kicked the gossip into high gear back in September when she teased that "the end throws you for a loop, even if you're expecting it," but then it seemed like maybe the big shocker she was talking about was actually the rumored post-credits choreographed dance routine that involves all 150 cast members.
Well, we now have official confirmation there's at least something unexpected about the ending, thanks to Taylor Lautner and his recent chat with Jay Leno. If you're hoping to see the movie 100% unspoiled about the final moments, read no further! Otherwise, here's a roundup of some of the biggest hints the cast -- and the author herself -- have dropped about what we're going to see:
First, here's what Taylor told Jay Leno a few days ago:
There's a very thin line, because the fans would freak on us if we changed anything too much, but I can confirm there is a twist, and I can confirm that everybody can find out what it is on November 16.
If you're good at sleuthing what's behind facial expressions, here's the video of Lautner's caaaaaaaaareful confirmation:
I wouldn't call it an alternate ending. The end was something we knew that had to be cracked. In a way, it's kind of offscreen in the novel because we only see what Bella sees. This was just a way of making visual what some of the other characters might have been seeing. It does feel very surprising ... There's definitely something new to see, but to me it doesn't seem like we're going hugely off the page at all.
Jackson Rathbone (Jasper) says you'd better take your potty breaks before the final minutes:
There are surprises, so I think we're all reticent about jumping on the spoiler alert train. The last 20 minutes are going to really be exciting for the fans.
There is an enormous shocking, sort of crazy surprise happening at the end of the movie that is not congruent with the book. Bill [Condon] closes it in a way that he really does twist a knife for anyone who may not want it to be over. I lost it!
You're like, 'Really it's over?' And we'll give you one more little—I love that thing, I think it's really great. And I love Bill for that.
When I first read the script, I got to that part and was like, ‘What?’ And then I had to go back a page. It does it a serious justice.
It's very strange, the ending, but it kind of works in a very bizarre way. You don't normally get a story where everyone has a happy ending. Which sounds kind of ridiculous but even if you tried to write a happy ending, it's kind of impossible. But Stephanie kind of figured out the through lines to make everyone have a happy ending. Which creates this very odd drama at the end. The ending is really sweet, it's probably the sweetest moment in the whole film. It's good.
Well, folks, what do you think? I'd guess that some critical person dies, except for the part about how it's actually happy. The references to "crazy," "bizarre," "strange," and so on make me think it's a moment that appears to be one thing while it's actually something else, so …. EDWARD GIVES JACOB THE KISS OF LIFE BUT SECRETLY SLIPS HIM SOME TONGUE! That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
