One of my pet peeves about actors promoting their not-yet-released movies is when they get into the nitty-gritty of how certain scenes were filmed. I know, it's dumb, but I like to hear about all the nerdy trivia stuff after I see the movie, not beforehand, so as to have a better shot at getting absorbed in the fantasy of it all. And, okay, it's not like I personally had those sort of expectations for Breaking Dawn 2 -- I think the Twilight movies are awful THERE I SAID IT -- but for the billions of fans who can't wait to get swept away by the long-awaited moment of Bella and Edward hooking up as vampires for the very first time … well, I'm a little surprised at how Robert Pattinson described shooting the Big Romantic Scene.
Here's your chance to click away and preserve your poetic faith in the insanely hot vampire-boosted sex between Bella and Edward -- otherwise, read on for what was REALLY going on as cameras were rolling:
According to Pattinson (who I am totally not referring to as R-Patz since he's made his feelings about this moniker pretty clear, having recently stated that "I would like to break the hands and mouth of the person who came up with it") (Although that sort of makes me want to use it more, because OH POOR BABY ARE YOU SO INSANELY POPULAR THE PUBLIC GAVE YOU AN AFFECTIONATE NICKNAME?), filming those intimate moments for Breaking Dawn 2 wasn't quite as pleasurable as it's meant to look onscreen:
The sex scene in this one is pretty ridiculous. It's just because you're kind of shooting stuff to be PG-13, and so it's just trying to think of inventive ways to try to make something sexy. It also can't just be a normal sex scene. It's supposed to be about, like, the greatest vampire sex you've ever had. So a lot of it was just closeups on me and Kristen's faces, but there was no one else there. (…) You literally try and give a face of ecstasy...Guys' faces I don't think are really designed to do that. The cameraman was laughing as well.
I'm sure he was just being modest and sharing something that was both funny and a legitimate challenge, but dude, way to kill the suspension of disbelief. I mean, regardless of how smoldering the scene might appear in the movie -- within those stifling PG-13 confines, of course -- you're going to know what really went into it: the actors nowhere near each other, and a cameraman slapping his knee and braying big hee-haws of laughter at Robert Pattinson's cheesy "O" face.
Anyway, sorry if I deflated your Twilight boner with this thrilling bit of news. Maybe that much-rumored spinoff show will be a little more … adult-oriented.
Do you think it was a bad move for Robert Pattinson to describe how unsexy the Breaking Dawn 2 sex scenes actually were?
