She may have fluffed off the idea of being cast in the role in the past, but now Kim Cattrall admits she's up for the part of Elena Lincoln in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie. And in case you were too caught up in the steamy scenes between Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele to remember who Elena is -- she's the gal who is credited with introducing Christian to everything he (ahem) knows.
Kim spoke about the role on an Australian radio show, and here's what she had to say:
As far as I'm aware it's potentially between me and Uma Thurman. I think we are in minds at the moment. That's based on a lot of people's blogs and desires at the moment. As far as I know they are still writing the script so the casting is some way down the line.
Ok, so it's sweet that Kim admits she's not the only actress being considered for the role -- but c'mon -- there's really no competition here. Uma Thurman is gorgeous and a great actress and all that, but when it comes to casting the part of a "Mrs. Robinson" type, how can they even consider giving the job to anyone other than Samantha Jones herself?
I mean, if anyone knows how to accurately portray a woman who is responsible for molding a young Christian Grey into the BDSM-loving man he turns out to be -- it's the person who practically invented being an on-screen sex obsessed older woman.
And another reason she's perfect for the part is because Kim loves the Fifty Shades series -- and being a fan of the book will only help her bring Elena's role to life. (OMG. She's going to be great.)
If Kim doesn't land Elena's role for some odd reason, who would you cast in the part?

I think Sharon Stone is a natural choice.... Although Kim Catrall works for me I immediately thoiught of Sharon as "Mrs. Robinson"
My top choice has always been Kim Cattrall as well but if they don't want her then Michelle Pfeiffer. I believe Diane Lane is the perfect choice for Grace or Sela Ward. As for Carla can anyone other than Mary Steenburgen fit that role to a tee?
You named the exact reason Kim should NOT be cast... it would be too glaringly typecast and we'd only see Samantha. Uma, too has typecast problems portraying GF with sexual distortions indy roles. So I don't favor one over the other, 'cause, hey. I won't be seeing the movie!
I love Kim. I def see her as Mrs. Robbinson. I would love her to play the role.
