Pregnant ladies don't need to buy a new snowboard!I always knew I liked Lea Michele. For a star whose spotlight is growing ever brighter, she seems fairly down to the earth. And the way the Glee star has dealt with pregnancy rumors since she was seen with a supposed baby bump over the weekend confirms it.
A photo of her heading into the Bellacures Nail Salon in Studio City, California went viral with claims that she was "trying to hide her stomach with her extra-large purse." So here people were poking around in Michele's private business -- and that of boyfriend Cory Monteith, I should point out. They were picking on the size of her belly, essentially calling her fat. And yet Lea had the most adorable response to being called pregnant ... maybe the cutest response to a pregnancy rumor ever!
Lea took to Twitter this morning after it all went down to tell us the truth about that "baby bump":
My first fake pregnancy rumor! I've finally made it! :)
Aww! Way to turn lemons into lemonade, turn that smile upside down, and all that jazz!
She's right. The tabs don't start pregnancy rumors about just anyone. I mean, can you imagine if they started on about me? Who's going to buy that one?
You have to be famous to "earn" one of these, and Lea has done pretty darn well for herself these past few years. She's got a hit TV show where's valued so much they've more or less rewritten the whole concept to keep her around, she's got a solo album coming up, and her movie Dorothy of Oz is coming out this year. She most certainly has made it!
Still, I don't know if I'd have had the same response. People were actually picking on her weight here! And by weight I'm talking about the merest hint of a wee bit of belly that, quite frankly, most women I know would take in a heartbeat (Are you there, God? It's me Jeanne ... and I would LOVE that body).
Even the claim that Lea was "hiding" her belly with her purse smells like a big pile of salmon and haddock to me. I look at it, and all I see is Lea Michele hold a purse in the hook of her elbow. Which is how, um, half of American women hold their purses.
You've got to hand it to her for keeping her sense of humor, and spinning this one into a win!
