'Keeping Up With the Kardashians' Season Finale Recap: Kourtney's Birth Was Beautiful but Bittersweet

by Julie Ryan Evans on September 16, 2012 at 11:56 PM

Kourtney KardashianTonight’s finale of Keeping Up With the Kardashians was an extreme mix of emotional happiness highs and deep, dark lows. From start to finish, it was an hour filled with tears of one kind or another, all fueled by babies.

We saw Kourtney Kardashian give birth to Penelope, literally pulling her from her own body, and the incredibly emotional reception the little girl got into this world surrounded by so much love. The entire Kardashian family was there (though I didn't see Bruce Jenner, which was a little weird), and seeing Mason come to meet his sister in the hospital was beyond adorable. He also had the best line of the night. When they told him his baby sister’s name was Penelope, he said. “No it’s not, it’s sister.” Awww.

As beautiful and touching as those final scenes were, however, I couldn't help but think of Khloe and the pain she was surely feeling wondering if it would ever be her there in that bed giving birth.

Last week we saw her get the news from a fertility doctor that she wasn’t ovulating. This week she told Lamar about her condition and started treatments. Kim, who decided to start the process of freezing her eggs, blabbed to Kris Jenner about Khloe's news, which was completely rude and insensitive. Khloe, of course, took it in stride, as she does most things, but it really wasn't cool of Kim.

Khloe was clearly distraught that she wasn't ovulating. "Who doesn't make eggs?" she asked the camera. Though she tried to insert a joke here and there, she was uncharacteristically somber for much of the episode. The good news -- as everyone kept trying to tell her -- is that at least they have found the problem and can treat it now. As someone who has been in a similar position, though, I know how hard it is to believe that. "It's a lot of stress and a lot more pressure," she said.

Just like it's hard to sit back and watch someone you love have a baby when you'd give anything to have one yourself. You're no less happy for them, but the longing hurts just the same.

Hopefully though now that she's undergoing treatment, we'll learn that Khloe is pregnant soon, and we'll see her there in that bed welcoming her own child into the world. I'm not betting on her pulling out the baby like Kourtney did, but you never know.

Did you cry during Keeping Up With the Kardashians tonight?

Kim is a disgusting attention whore. She had no business telling anyone, family or not, klhoe's news from the doctor. She such an inconsiderate ass. If I had her for a sister I'm pretty sure I would cut off all contact with her because she is a toxic person.

As a woman and a mother who is trying for her second child without luck, I feel for Khloe. Being a mother is something she's wanted for so long, being let down every month has to feel awful. And while I know she's happy for her sister, it has to be hard seeing how easy getting pregnant is for her. But seeing how she is with Mason, she is going to make an incredible mother.
Watching Kourtney give birth again was so emotional, and Mason meeting "sister" was the cutest.
People can knock the Kardashians and reality tv all they want, but the truth is, people out there relate to it. They relate to struggles, successes, a little bit of everything.
You did leave out Bruce going to the Olympic Trials with his sons, and how much it hurt when his daughters weren't interested in coming. And how they made it up to him, I thought that was a sweet and meaningful part of the episode.

I am so glad I have brain cells (and morals) to recognize that this family will do ANYTHING for money. You people are sad and pathetic for watching and approving everything they do.

That's awesome! I loved her birth with her son. I don't watch the show normally but caught that episode.
She caught her son too. I had a similar birth with my DD and hopefully a repeat with my DS due in January! It is amazing to literally be the person to bring your child in to the world!

I feel bad for Khloe. My sister can't have kids either. She went with me for my sonogram last month and apparently went home and cried because she will never have that. :(
