Ryan Gosling Breaks Silence on '50 Shades' Casting Rumors & He's Not Fooling Anyone

by Mary Fischer on September 11, 2012 at 3:02 PM

Ryan GoslingOk, I have a question. Is Ryan Gosling going to be cast as Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie or not? Isn't it about time that they quit messing around with who is going to land Ana's and Christian's roles and just go ahead and make a decision so we can all quit speculating about it? I mean -- the suspense is really starting to drive us crazy.

And that's why it was such a relief to hear that Ryan Gosling himself has finally broken his silence about the Fifty Shades casting rumors involving him -- and what he had to say definitely wasn't what any of us expected.

Instead of confirming to Extra whether he's already landed the role or not, he simply said:

"I don't ... what is this book that everyone is talking about? It seems very popular."

Really? That's all he had to say? What the heck is up with the "Uh ... I don't know a damn thing about it" act? (He's such a bs-er.)

It's pretty obvious that he didn't want to elaborate on the subject, but none of us are buying what Ryan's selling with that overly vanilla statement. Because judging from just how coy he was about starring in the flick, he basically gave himself away as knowing more about the possibility of landing Christian's role than he's letting on.

Oh come on -- you aren't seriously believing that he's never heard of the book, and hasn't at least given consideration to taking on the role, are you? Everyone who's anyone knows exactly what Fifty Shades of Grey is, and it has to be common knowledge among the Hollywood types that being cast in the movie is kind of a big deal.

If anything, Ryan's neutral comment only proves he's at least entertaining the idea of being Christian Grey, even if he refuses to admit it. Sometimes what you don't come right out and say speaks louder than the words you do. (We're on to you, Mr. Gosling.)

If Ryan doesn't get cast as Christian, who is the next best choice?

I could believe that he is NOT going to be in the movie. I am shocked there is even going to be a movie period, much less that people think Real actors are going to play in it. I have read the books, and I really don't understand all they hype. How are they going to put all of the graphic sex on screen? If they don't show that, then basically it's every other romance novel out there. Two people meet, like eachother, have sex, someone tries to break them up/kill one of them, the danger makes the man realise he loves the girl, bad guy loses. That is literally every Harlequin novel, and without the qinky sex, thats all it is. The only way I would watch this movie is is someone big like Ryan Gosling is in it.

I heard that Liam and Chris Hemsworth were being looked at to play Christian and his brother. I read the books and enjoyed them but it's crazy to me how much hype there is about this movie. That being said...if the Hemsworth brothers were the lead men in the film I would watch it.

I think this is a lot bigger deal for you than for any of the stars in Hollywood.....the book was terrible. There are some really good books in the same genre, but everyone on this site is so obsessed with this really, really bad book. I just don't get it.
