Are you getting tired of all the casting rumors about the movie version of Fifty Shades of Grey? Join the club. Niall Leonard is already a member. The husband of Fifty Shades author E.L. James, Leonard was supposed to be on Today to talk about his new young adult novel. Instead he ended up being grilled about Ryan Gosling and the rest of the potential cast.
Ahem ... awkward!
So, what did "Mr. Fifty Shades of Grey" have to say about RyGos? Considering he was the one who supposedly let slip that we were going to get see our favorite The Notebook star in Christian Grey's battered jeans, you might be surprised.
Leonard says Gosling is not going to be heading into a red room of pain anytime soon. Sigh. It's a bit soul-crushing, although I guess it was to be expected, huh? It seems every time this guy opens his mouth, people are reading way too far into things.
Leonard didn't refer directly to the rumor that he'd named Gosling to star, but you can tell all the questions are starting to wear on the poor guy. When Today co-host Savannah Guthrie suddenly shifted topics from the five seconds she spent asking him about Crusher -- his novel for teens -- back to Fifty Shades, specifically bringing up the upcoming movie, he looked like he wanted to throw up his hands:
All sorts of crazy rumors. When I deny one, it just starts another, so my official line is no comment.
Niall says he really has "no idea" who will play Anastasia Steele's dominant seducer, but I wouldn't blame him if that "no comment" was just because he doesn't want to cooperate anymore. The poor guy has to live with people constantly poking around in his sex life, he can't get five minutes to talk up his own book -- even though he was the writer first! -- and he has to see his words twisted around in print all the time. And this morning he was forced to be the guy who busted a thousand hearts in two with the news that Ryan Gosling was never really going to play Christian Grey in the first place.
What do you think of E.L. James's husband getting sucked into this frenzy?

Ryan Gosling and Natalie Portman! It's a natural match!
UGG he is SO not Christian Grey. He is not tall, he does not have the sharp facial features Anastasia always talked about. We will be SO disappointed if they cast him.
It will suck if he doesn't get to play the part. With all th emoney his wife is making off of these three books he should wanna talk about it 24-7! She probably makes more than he does at this point.
poor guy. Must suck for him to have been the writer first and then her poorly written books start making millions. I wonder how much of a better writer he is? Makes me want to buy his book and see. If he is better he is probably just so pissed she hit it so big with this, even if he does get to share the money. It must hurt his ego and inner artist badly.
