I don't know about you, but I can tell you exactly what I was doing on Tuesday, August 21, 2012: crying. Crying into my computer, that is, because of these words ... words I can barely find the strength to share with you, because they're still just ... just so incredibly painful. Okay, DEEP BREATH. Here goes: The reason i don't tweet as much as i use to, is because I'm sick of all the useless opinions and hate that i get daily goodbye twitter.
That message came on what is destined to be forever remembered as the horrible, gut-searing day Zayn Malik from One Direction left Twitter. As difficult as it is for me to revisit the traumatic memories, I can only do so because our long national nightmare is finally over.
Thank the sweet baby Jesus, Malik has RETURNED.
Malik's shocking departure created a palpable sense of loss on the social media site, sparking a number of separate and utterly unique trending topics such as #ComeBackZayn and #ZaynComeBack. It's not entirely clear why the young singer was forced into the extreme decision of backing away from his Twitter account, but it may have had something to do with some gossip posted by Perez Hilton ... or maybe it was just the hate. The endless, unspeakable streams of hate, so tragically common among insanely popular boy bands.
After all, at the time he signed off Twitter, he had nearly 5 million followers. So, so, so much hate.
The world was a dark and soulless place after Tuesday's crushing news from Malik, and it truly seemed like the sun would never shine again. Time passed -- excruciatingly slowly, like a FULL DAY -- and then came the jaw-dropper NO ONE saw coming: Malik returned.
His words? Burned into my heart: "Sorry, I was getting some abuse on twitter but I dont want to let my fans down. So I am back!!"
Oh, thank god! Thank god! I don't know what amazing miracle brought Malik back into our lives but I am so incredibly grateful! As one fan wrote,
"Thank God @zaynmalik is back...now I actually have a life," -- @HadiKhanvict
So true! What was I supposed to do without his posts? Eat? Sleep? Work? I DON'T THINK SO. Thank you, Malik. Thank you for coming back.
Also in a completely random coincidence that clearly has nothing whatsoever to do with Malik's actions, One Direction announced their new single on Thursday.
Are you rejoicing over Zayn Malik's return? How did you deal with your sorrow while he was gone?
