Jada Pinkett Smith Addresses All Those Crazy Divorce Rumors

by Linda Sharps on August 10, 2012 at 1:05 PM

Remember back in That Time Before Kristen Stewart Took Over the Tabloids (TTBKSTOTT), when everyone was talking about Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith and how they were totally breaking up? It seems like there was a weeks-long period when every celebrity rag in publication was downright obsessed with their relationship, and the rumors went so far as to claim Jada had retained a high-powered divorce attorney, they had split up the kids ... and that Will was getting jiggy with actor Duane Martin.

In the latest issue of Essence, Jada addressed the rumors head-on, and I have to admire her for being willing to talk about this crap. Because it has to suck, being asked for the millionth time whether or not your marriage is about to fall apart.

Back in April, Jada tried to put the divorce rumors to rest, saying,

Every year, one celebrity couple is under the microscope. This year, unluckily, it’s us! I almost want to say that we should have been expecting it. These rumors are completely untrue. Will and I know the truth. We're waiting peacefully for the storm to blow over.

Yeah, I don't really know what that was all about, but the Smiths had a seriously bad run in the tabloids. I mean, remember all this?

(Ooh, I'd almost forgotten how Jada had supposedly hooked up with J.Lo's then-husband. To each their own, but can you imagine trading in Will Smith for MARC ANTHONY?)

Both Will and Jada have officially denied their supposed split in the past, but it never seems to help. I don't know if this Essence interview will make a difference in the rumors either, but I like what Jada has to say:

It seems like that happens at least once a year, or at least once every two years. It's rumored that we're getting a divorce. But no. We're not getting a divorce. Where am I gonna go? Where am I going to go? That's my boo. It's like he's another part of me.

You know, I like these two. They seem legit, and the longer they stay together (it's been 15 years now!), the more of a Hollywood anomaly they become. I can't imagine how hard it would be to maintain a healthy relationship when you're constantly in the tabloids for cheating/being separated/having gay flings/secretly being an alpaca/whatever. Props to them for continuing to make it work, and for being willing to tell the public yet AGAIN that everything's fine.

Why do you think there are so many rumors about Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith?

    I hate the term boo.
They seem to be a rock solid couple and their kids seem well adjusted.

It seems like they picked them cause they would be the black Brad and Jen.  I still remember hearing about that and being shocked, it seems the tabloids are just trying to get the same shock value out of this strong couple.

He tabloids take pics from movies and use them as if they were the real thing. The problem is not really the papers themselves it's the fact that we the public buy them. If we stopped buying them the companies wouldn't make money off this fake crap anymore.
