Oh, it's on. The battle between Countess Luann de Lesseps and Princess Carole Radziwill has been brewing for awhile, mostly with the clueless countess bugging the hell out of Carole and us waiting for Carole to snap hard enough for LuAnn to notice. Finally, last night on The Real Housewives of New York City, she did.
While at a dinner with most the gang, LuAnn referenced her Native Indian heritage. Carole called her out on saying that no one over the third grade still used that term. As I said in my recap of the show last night, I thought that was a bit of a snotty remark by Carole, but it was also true and pretty funny regardless. At the time LuAnn she seemed unaffected by Carole's comments, but after watching it air last night, she lashed out at Carole today.
In a statement to Celebuzz she said:
I want to say that if anyone thought that something I did on last night’s episode was offensive, I’m sorry. To insinuate that I am insensitive or racist is insulting and flat out not true.
So I agree she may not be racist, but she was most certainly offensive. Not just for her use of the word Indian, because that is debatable. As she pointed out in her statement, "The U.S. Census Bureau surveyed people of various races, asking what they liked to be called and over 49% of American Indians preferred to be called American Indian while 37% said that Native American was their preference." Point made, but I'd be willing to bet none of those people would be pleased with her scalping joke either.
As Carole wrote on her Bravo blog:
We have a shameful past with Native Americans in this country -- we nearly annihilated the native population and have a long history of negative stereotypes and discrimination toward them. Call me crazy, but I think jokes about scalping and rape and pillage are inappropriate.
Of course, LuAnn couldn't just graciously apologize and admit any wrongdoing, instead she's just reverted to her standard response to any criticism and blamed someone else. She told the site that everything she says seems to bug Carole. Ding! Ding! Ding! Maybe that's because everything she says is condescending and self-centered, dahling.
"Carole never passes up an opportunity to put me down and unfortunately this is what some people do to make themselves feel or look better," she said. Yeah, keep telling yourself that, LuAnn.
At least it's FINALLY getting through to her that Carole can't stand her. It's taken long enough, but I'm sure this is only the beginning of troubles between these two now that LuAnn has been offended. I fear, however, that LuAnn is just going to look more clueless and classless with each round as Carole is a cool, smart, and quick foe. Actually I don't fear it at all; I can't wait to see LuAnn taken down ... at least a notch or two.

All the way with team Carole! LuAnn is a cancer in RHONY and needs to be cut out.. She always flaunts her title that and since she's divorced from the Count, she lost custody of the title, give it up! She thinks she's Miss Class, but is totally no class. She corrects and belittles people in front of the friends so she can feel superior. A real lady would pull away the 'offending' person to the side and in a low voice, tactfully point it out. Her catty comments and digs are an affirmation to her song "Money Can't Buy You Class". She's only classless she's Count-less.
Team Carole all the way! LuAnn is so plastic. She act so haughty and pretends to have so much class and she wants to have a baby with her lover! I am not opposed to people having a child with a lover but it goes to show that she is just a commoner like the rest of us. Also, who (LuAnn) solicits clothing from designers? LuAnn, how gauche!
Team LuAnn! Carol is sooooo phony......and put a bra on already Carol. No wonder your "close designer friends" never offered to style you in their fashions.......you'd make anything look trashy!
I find it interesting that LouAnn makes sure everyone knows that she is a Countess..even though divorced and likely a FORMER countess. The Princess/Carole, is never the one to bring this up. Ramona or others will ensure all know that Carole is a Princess. LouAnn is totally "affected" and Carole is a "real" person. If we were making up teams, I would be Team Carole for sure.
Team Carole all the way!! The Countess is so Cuntless and In appropriate she should go and read her book again and JUST SHUT UP!!! No one is beaneth her even if she thinks she is better then them all she is so WRONG. She is the worst of the bunch.
I absolutely LOVE Carole!!! She is non-pretentious, funny, lovable, intelligent, down-to-earth and all around likeable! AND, she has a better pedigree than ANY of the women on the show! Carole is the ONLY reason that I am still watching the NY show.
BTW, I think that it is entirely CLASSLESS to cut on someone's looks. Seriously? Is it necessary to talk about Carole's teeth? A person's outside does not reflect who they are inside. SHAME on you Debbie Reynolds!
If Carole was so offended by LuAnn's stereotyping her own heritage then how does she handle all the other negative and derogatory comments about (I'll call them First Americans to be p.c.).
Such as all the sports teams, FSU's Seminoles doing their infamous tomahawk chop ad nauseum (yes, I am a HUGE Gator fan!), The Washington Red Skins and the entire ruckus about the Casinos and their "tax" status and eligability to be exempt from paying any and all taxes!
And one last point, we have seen Carole sporting what could be called "Indian" looking clothing, fringed boots, feathers in her crazy hair and I think that jacket in England looked very Buckskin-ish. Just saying...
