'Teen Mom' Star Gary Shirley Asks President Obama to Pardon Amber Portwood

by Jeanne Sager on August 7, 2012 at 11:08 AM

Amber PortwoodOh boy. Just when I didn't think the saga of troubled Teen Mom star Amber Portwood could get crazier, it did. Boy did it ever! Her boyfriend, Gary Shirley, wants Amber sprung from her five-year jail sentence.

And who, pray tell, does Gary think should come in on his white steed to rescue his fair maiden? None other than President Barack Obama himself. Come on, you know you want to know more.

I'm not sure whether Gary was drunk or just being an idiot, but the father of Amber's young daughter Leah actually took to Twitter the other day with a request for the commander in chief:

Hey @BarackObama I voted for you. Can you get Amber out of prison? Please. Well have dinner with you.

Hey, now at least he'll buy him dinner. I mean, that really is the least you can do if the president lets your lazy, drug addict girlfriend out of jail four and a half years early, isn't it? Don't answer that ...

I feel bad for Gary. He's parenting all alone right now (rumor has it we'll even see Amber give up her legal rights to Leah in an upcoming episode of Teen Mom). And the reports that Amber is depressed in prison are both not terribly surprising (ahem, it's prison, not a spa) and probably weighing on him. The fact that he sent out her prison address, asking for other people to help him cheer her up is evidence enough of that.

But let's get real for a second here. Amber not only chose prison over finishing out her rehab, but she made a long, long line of mistakes that got her there. From beating up Gary himself (in front of Leah!) to abusing drugs to driving under the influence, she's made it clear she deserves to be there.

Instead of begging for ridiculous pardons from the president, maybe Gary should be making sure Amber sits in prison and thinks long and hard about what got her there.

What do you think of this plea for a presidential pardon?

i think he's an fn idiot. SHE chose to do all the things she did, noone forced her. Why in the world would he even have the balls to ask a question like that after everything shes not only done to Leah, but to him. She needs to learn her lesson, and shouldve thought ahead of time about what was more important-drugs/partying or her daughter. Obviously she didnt choose her daughter.

Well the President has nothing else to do and it will give him publicity and maybe more votes! Sure. Why not? It's what he loves to do. Be in the celebrity spotlight and playing the good guy.

It's scary the types of people who vote for our countries leaders isn't it?

Technically, if those were the exact words, Gary was simply offering to let the president eat a meal with them.  No mention on who would foot the bill.  Isn't Obama so lucky to have offers like that?  I'm sure he has plenty of free time between making policy decisions and campaigning.

Only an idiot would think the president actually has time for BS like that.

Though many people in Amber's situation continue to be repeat offenders after incarceration, I definitely think this is a lesson Amber REALLY needs to fully absorb. Thus far, she has suffered no real consequences for all her stupidity. She takes her "slap on the wrist" rehab negotiation and dumps it in the toilet, and in her own words TELLS the judge she will always be a "bad girl" so she just wants to do her time and get on with life. I hope for the sake of Leah and Gary that Amber gets her ducks in a row this time... Leah needs a stable mother and Gary needs to have a partner in raising this child - even if my personal opinion is that the two of them have NO right being in a relationship together.

Seriously, Gary? Do you actually think Obama has time for Amber when he's so busy kissing babies and jarring at the military? NO. And Ps Gary, of you used the "smart" side of your brain as opposed to the weakling side, you would realize that Amber needs to serve her time, it's her best chance at getting clean. It will probably help her attitude as well, given that if she tries to talk to hardened inmates the way she talks to you, she'll have her head rammed through the cell bars QUICK.

The fact that you think the President has nothing better to do all day does make me horrified that you are able to vote, JAFE. Also this blog is about 1 idiot girl that has made mistakes up to her eyeballs and her sad "baby-daddy" who, through it all, is still sticking by her even though she doesn't deserve it. It's not about how much you hate the president. Stop trolling and at least put your opinion under a politically related article.

She deserves to be in jail. She doesn't need any more bail outs. It's time for her get her life strait once and for all.

Haha! I think I'll create a Twitter account just to say, "Hey @BarackObama I voted for you. Can you pay my bills this month? Please. I'll have dinner with you."
