Just when I thought the only person in Hollywood that receives death threats these days was Kristen Stewart, I now stand corrected. Today's news? Los Angeles detectives are investigating a series of death threats sent to Juno actress Ellen Page on Twitter. The horror! The thought of a death threat in 140 characters or less makes me uneasy.
While one of 'em was pretty blunt, a simple "I'm going to murder Ellen Page. She's dead," some of the others were a tad more specific, having to deal with her alleged relationship with upcoming The East costar hunka hunka vampire Alexander Skarsgard. I'm dizzy just thinking about his hotness. Or maybe it's from all this death threat talk. Shoot, I'm just feeling uncomfortable.
That's it. Celebrities just can't catch a break anymore.
I get it. If you want to be an actor or an actress, you have to understand that means a lot of people you don't know are going to know everything about you. However, that doesn't mean you expect people threatening your very existence and your personal relationships with gems of a message like, "If you continue to date Alexander, I will K-1-L-L you in public ..."
Did I mention I'm feeling uncomfortable? What's with the "1"? Does that make it less serious? I'm thinking not.
Kudos to Page for taking action and seeking out a search warrant to track down the Twitter users who have been sending these scary messages, especially since they started back in June. I don't care whether these threats are happening in person or online, the fact that someone wishes this upon someone else is just not OK. Let's hope they catch these nutcases so she can have some state of mind back.
Do you think these death threats are anything to worry about?
