Time for a little Hunger Games casting news! The latest actor to have a confirmed role in Catching Fire is a doozy. To catch you up, so far we've got Jena Malone as Johanna, Amanda Plummer's going to play Wiress, Phillip Seymour Hoffman is Plutarch, Sam Claflin is probably playing Finnick, and we hope Tony Shalhoub will star as Beetee. Even though Melissa Leo's name was being tossed around as a possibility, Lionsgate has confirmed that a Sex and the City alumna has been cast as the mysterious District 4 tribute, Mags. Drum roll ...
No, Sarah Jessica Parker isn't going to be in the movie, but Lynn Cohen is. She played Miranda's housekeeper Magda in SATC and now we'll be able to see her as the octogenarian in the Quarter Quell. Pretty cool!
Besides Sex and the City, Lynn's had small roles in Law & Order, Nurse Jackie, and Damages. She's from Kansas City, Missouri, so I guess that eastern European accent she had on SATC was just pretty solid and convincing acting. Nice work, Lynn.
I'm glad they went with someone age-appropriate for the role of Mags -- would've been weird to see Melissa Leo, who's in her 40s, try to pretend like she's in her 80s.
Mags was a compelling character in the book, and when she went into the mist (that's all I'll say lest there's one of you out there who still hasn't read the books), I was touched. Mags' and Finnick's relationship was really special in Catching Fire and I can't wait to see it play out on the big screen.
Yay for Lynn Cohen as Mags. You go, woman.
Think "Magda" will make a good Mags?
