Carey Rottman & Christian BaleChristian Bale did not have to visit the survivors of last week's massacre during The Dark Knight Rises premiere in Aurora, Colorado. In fact, when he was being pressured to do so, it felt forced, unfair to him, and we had hokey visions of him in his Batman costume just making things uncomfortable.
The intention was good, but it felt wrong ... until he actually went and did it himself, in his own way. Today, on his own accord, Bale traveled to Aurora and quietly met with victims. Not as the Dark Knight, or with a camera crew in tow, but as Christian Bale, a caring human being who because of fate and the role he played had some type of connection to these people. Because he thought it might alleviate a little bit of pain.
In statement to the Denver Post, his rep said, "Mr. Bale is there as himself, not representing Warner Brothers."
Doctors told the paper he spent about 2 1/2 hours with staff and patients, and said "It was good for the patients." The pictures are both heartwrenching and heartwarming. Above is Carey Rottman, who was shot in the leg and faces a year of recovery time.

To see so many people so horrifically affected by one man's violent actions is shocking, but it's also great to see Bale and so many others who have reached out to victims showing the caring side of humanity -- the side that I choose to believe is more prevalent and more powerful than the rest.
Does Christian Bale have superhero powers to heal the sick and mend the pain? Of course not. Nor is his role in any way responsible for the shooting. Hopefully, however, his presence there can bring some joy into such a dark situation. For some it may be too much of a reminder of that fateful night, and that's okay. But for others, I hope it shows that in the end, there are still plenty of good guys out there.
Bravo, Mr. Bale.

That was nice of him to do that
Just when I thought he couldn't get any hotter, he goes and does something like this! *Swoon*
This Article brought tears to my eyes. I am so happy that Christian Bale went and visited the victims. You're a wonderful man Christian Bale, its nice to see there are still wonderful people in this world. Bravo Christian Bravo
I have to admit, I thought him visiting the victims as Batman was a horrible idea and I'm glad he didn't go that route. For him to go the way he did, quietly and with no press or fanfare, is really incredible. So many celebrities would have used something like this as an opportunity to show their "humane" and "compassionate" side, milking the publicity for all it's worth. Bravo, Mr. Bale. You've shown us that some celebrities CAN do something without having "an angle."
Bravo Christian Bale! I've always respected you as an actor! Your actions have taking my respect for to a whole higher level!
