Seeing Teen Mom star Amber Portwood choose to go to prison was hard on the fans who hoped she'd finally get on the ball and straighten her life out for little Leah's sake. But I have to say it's been a nice month or so without a scandalous Amber update in the headlines. Almost makes you miss her, doesn't it?
Good news: Amber is still available to the masses! Well, available if you promise to be nice. Amber's on again, off again boyfriend (and Leah's dad) Gary Shirley has released her address at the prison in Rockville, Indiana. And he says she's open to getting care packages and letters from her fans.
But should people be sending them?
It's kind of a mixed bag. We've seen on TV just how hard Amber takes it when someone criticizes her. We've also gotten a sense that she didn't have a lot of love in her life as a kid. Just this past week on Teen Mom, she told a hypnotherapist that her dad would regularly call her a "b---h" and tell her to shut up.
I have a feeling if Amber is getting care packages and kind letters in prison, she'd soak up the love. And hopefully she would channel it into her work to reform herself. Hopefully.
At the very least, Gary said it's helping her pass the time. And he's very clear that this isn't a plea for money -- he's putting that in her account. This really could be a simple human kindness.
But then there is the other side, the dangerous side of all of this. Part of Amber's problem has always been blaming other people for her problems. She has spent a lot of time on TV blasting the public for criticizing her instead of facing up to WHY people were calling her a bad mom. Getting letters could mean being sucked back into the "fame game," and right now, she's probably not strong enough to handle that.
If you're up for it, here's her address: 811 West 50 N, Rockville, IN 47872.
What do you think? Should Amber be allowed to get letters from fans?

I am glad to say that I have no clue who she is & was brought to this story by a bad link. I think she is a perfect example of what is going wrong with our country & that "reality" tv leads to this behavior becoming more acceptable in our society.
She's in prison because she had drug issues, and because she told the judge straight up she wanted to go to prison. She had the option to do outpatient treatment. I don't feel sorry for her at all.
I don't think Amber will ever change. She has been in trouble for years, if she would take her medication as perscribed not as she feels like it she make feel better and not act all crazy, but until she can get help with that, I don't believe she will ever change.
First of all I do not think the best intrest of the child is being handled properly. Gary is no better of a parent then Amber and that baby would be better off with two parents who love her very much, a family that can give her stability and make her happy, this family is so disfunctional and this baby is being seriously affected by what she is seeing, two young people who hate each other and scream at each other all the time, Leah needs to see that people are not supposed to be that way, she is going to grow up to be the same way if she continues to live it. Gary's mom seems so clueless. I think they should both let a loving couple adopt their baby and give her all the love she needs, give her an opportunity to thrive and live happy. As for Gary and Amber, they need to do the right thing, give her up, and then get their lives together, but I seriously think they need to both be fixed, they should never have children.
Try supporting trouble people, instead of kicking them while they're down. You might be suprised at the outcome.
