Almost just as quickly as author E.L. James dissed the idea of on- and off-screen lovebirds Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson being cast as Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie, it looks like another on- and off-screen pair is writing themselves off as being cast ... at least as a couple.
Sorry, Vampire Diaries fans, but Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev told Extra at Comic-Con that the chances of them being cast together is slim ...
I can't imagine Universal doing that, but that could be very interesting.
To which Nina added ...
I think if people saw us in Fifty Shades of Grey, they'd just see Elena and Damon.
Sounds like Ian's more all about it than his lady love, but they both seem to know better than to think they'll be cast as a team. Unlike one very attractive but kinda dense Channing Tatum, whose recent comment about being cast as Christian only if his wife could play Ana makes no sense at all, given that Jenna Dewan-Tatum is gorgeous but no wide-eyed and innocent 22-year-old!
Anyway, glad Ian and Nina appear to realize that the film will be much better off in the hands of actors who are not already associated with roles like Elena and Damon or Edward and Bella, etc. (I know, I know, you love them together -- but love them together this fall in Vampire Diaries season four!)
As I've said all along, unknowns or at least relative unknowns would be best. Think about it -- what if the Twilight producers had gone with a known on- and off-screen couple, like, say, former celeb sweethearts Alexis Bledel and Milo Ventimiglia? How weird would that have been -- to see the Gilmore Girls couple playing Edward and Bella? Ick. Strange.
And yet, it would be best if the actors cast as Christian and Ana end up having fiery off-the-charts chemistry, right? Since Ian and Nina are obviously a majorly hot item, would either naturally have that with someone else? Eehh ... not so sure. So perhaps neither is meant for the flick and another -- up-and-coming instead of already established -- duo is.
Here's the clip where Somerhalder and Dobrev talked about Fifty Shades ...
Are you disappointed that Ian and Nina seem to think they won't be cast as a couple? Do you agree it would be hard to see them as Ana and Christian instead of Elena and Damon?
