You know what, you guys? I may have been all wrong about 50 Cent. I always thought he was a half-witted obnoxious loudmouth whose cholesterol must be sky-high from all the fake-drama rapper beefs he keeps getting involved in, but it turns out he's a thoughtful, sensitive guy after all! What other explanation can there possibly be for the fact that he recently supported hip-hop artist Frank Ocean -- who famously revealed that his first love was a man -- by saying, "Anyone that has an issue with Frank Ocean is an idiot"?
Of course, 50 Cent also recently insulted autistic/special education kids, and a while back GLAAD admonished him for an outrageous gay slur, and in 2004 he told Playboy that "I ain't into faggots," and he infamously joked about Japan's tsunami victims, and ... hmm. Who's the idiot, again?
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad 50 Cent is actually saying something half-intelligent for a change. In speaking with MTV News, he described Ocean as a "talented artist," and went on to compliment Ocean's work:
I think he's created material that made me know his name, that impressed me, with things he said on a song like Novacane.
Hey, 50 Cent almost sounds open-minded and not like his typical asshole self! Well, until he managed to slide in a dig at the timing of Ocean's announcement and his "Channel Orange" album release:
You can call it brave or you can call it marketing, because it was intentional; it wasn't an accident.
Ah, there's the Fiddy we all know. Why build someone up when you can cut them down, right?
Good intentions aside, for 50 Cent to say a person is an "idiot" for taking issue with Ocean's sexuality is pretty much a ridiculous pile of steaming hypocrisy. I mean, considering this is the same guy who's said the following:
yeah just saw your picture fool you look autistic. I don't want no special ed kids on my time line follow some body else.
Perez Hilton calld [sic] me douchebag so I had my homie shoot up a gay wedding. wasnt his but still made me feel better.
If you a man and your over 25 and you don't eat pu**y just kill your self damn it. The world will be a better place. Lol
I ain't into f----ts. I don't like gay people around me, because I'm not comfortable with what their thoughts are. I'm not prejudiced. I just don't go with gay people and kick it--we don't have that much in common. I'd rather hang out with a straight dude. But women who like women, that's cool.
I guess it's great that 50 Cent supports Frank Ocean -- or at least supports his "marketing" -- but give me a break on his new, sensitive rapper persona. Maybe if he could go an entire month without insulting the shit out of an entire group of people, I'd have a better chance of believing he actually supports Ocean's choices.
