The third season of Game of Thrones may be pretty far off on your radar (reports say it won't premiere until March 31, 2013), but hype has been brewing ever since HBO announced 14 new cast additions! They offered Comic-Con fans a sneak peek at all the new blood last Friday.
Wow, 14 new characters! As if keeping track of everyone else isn't hard enough. They better start killing off some more people soon, don't you think? But probably the most exciting news was the announcement of who's playing the Queen of Thorns. It may not have been who I thought would be perfect for the role, but of course HBO did not disappoint.
Click through to see who we're looking forward to seeing most during the third season! Some mild spoilers ahead, too, by the way.
Diana Rigg: This stunning English actress is best known as Emma Peel in The Avengers (the TV series). We can't wait to see her take on Olenna Redwyne in Game of Thrones. She's got the looks and knowing smile to own this part, wouldn't you say? Such exciting news!
Tobias Menzies: The younger brother of Catelyn Stark has quite a prominent role in A Storm of Swords. Tobias, who gets to play him, probably best known as Brutus from Rome. As Edmure Tully, he is involved in one of the most shocking scenes of book 3, and I'm sure he will not disappoint.
Thomas Brodie-Sangster: Hey, remember this kid from movies like Nanny McPhee and Love Actually? Slated to portray the mysterious Jojen Reed, who helps Bran Stark figure out how to open his "third eye", he's definitely got the acting chops to play this important character who has "greensight" and prophetic dreams.
Ellie Kendrick: But what about Jojen's sister, Meera? Sixteen-year-old Meera is far less mysterious, a great hunter, and believer in her younger brother's power. Ellie is most famous for playing Anne Frank in the PBS series. I for one can't wait to finally see the Reed siblings come to life on my television screen!
Mackenzie Crook: Probably best known from his role on Pirates of the Caribbean and The Office, I'm looking forward to seeing Mackenzie take on the role of Orell. A wilding raider and skinchanger who helps Mance Ryder beyond the Wall, Mackenzie is a super-talented actor and keeps on proving that HBO can do no casting wrong.
Are you excited for Game of Thrones season 3 in light of this casting news?
