Mistress of the Pop Culture Universe E.L. James -- aka Erika Leonard -- has fielded a bazillion different questions about her hit trilogy Fifty Shades of Grey, but the most burning of all is obvious. Everyone wants to know yesterday who will be cast as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie. Really, could we Fifty fans be any more anxious? Erika knows it, having taken to her Twitter account a couple of days ago to fill us in on the latest:
"We are so far away from casting the Fifty films ... no-one ruled is out ... no one is ruled in. Just so you know."
As Ana would say, "Gah!" How frustrating. Then again, maybe it's for the best that the already fast-tracked production take their time casting the sure to be steamy film's leads ...
I know, I know. Speculating that Ryan Gosling read for the part of Christian Grey and he's it!, or they're auditioning Ian Somerhalder and putting him in a screen test up against Lucy Hale, and it was kismet!, etc. would be so much more fun than sitting around waiting. But trust me on this one.
The more methodical -- much like Christian's intricate planning for the Red Room of Pain -- they are about choosing the leads, the more sure we can be that they've chosen the right actors to portray Christian and Ana. In other words, the much hotter the payoff ... Heh heh.
Regardless of Erika's tweet, we know Universal's not kiddin' around. They wanna bang this out, because they know fans are pumped for it now and want to capitalize on that. But do we really want them to rush to cast the flick and risk making a mistake? No way! After all, we're all worked up over the casting for good reason: It will make or break the film! So let 'em take their sweet time.
In the meantime, check out this video for more details on the bestseller's rise to the big screen ...
How do you feel about Erika's news? Would you rather they took their time to cast the film wisely?
