No one really cared about American Idol last year. The novelty of new judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler had worn off and the revamped Hollywood week wasn't enough to keep us interested -- the show got its lowest ratings ever. Now, Fox is plotting to lure us back. Rumor has it that the network is courting Adam Lambert, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, and/or Miley Cyrus to replace J. Lo, who may or may not be leaving. Apparently, execs want one of those youthful stars to inject some life into the dying series. And frankly, thank god.
It was fun with J. Lo and Steven for a year, but two was one too many. They didn't SAY anything. They just drooled over each contestant because they could only see them as innocent kids. Jennifer, 42, Randy, 56, and Steven, 64, were too adult to express anything honest to the young hopefuls. But put a teenager like Miley on the judges' table? Let the games begin.
She can be critical, and should be, because she's the same age as the contestants and knows what it takes to make it big in this day and age. If they don't have what it takes, I hope Miley would put them out of their misery and tell them to concentrate on their GED because there is no room in La La land for a mediocre voice with awkward dance moves. No room.
And no, I'm not even going to entertain the idea that Adam Lambert, Katy Perry, and Nicki Minaj are also being considered for the position. I find each of them more annoying than a newborn in first class and would rather swallow fistfuls of their glitter residue than watch them squeal their way through the show. Miley's our only hope.
Nothing's been confirmed, but if J. Lo does decide to leave A.I., it's been said that Randy and Steven will wait to see who her replacement is before they re-up, meaning, of course, that there could potentially be three new judges if Jennifer's replacement is particularly polarizing. Awesome.
Here's to Miley being a glorious, grousing teen at the judges' table. It's time Idol is out with the old and in with the young.
Who do you want to see replace J. Lo?
