Talk about pressure. Khloe Kardashian got a big old dose of it tonight on Keeping Up With the Kardashians when she and Lamar moved back to Los Angeles. The plane's wheels barely hit the runway before the entire Kardashian clan pounced trying to pull her this way and that and even to the opening Scott Disick's restaurant, RYU, in New York.
Poor Khloe was emotional, exhausted, and just trying to get settled and help Lamar get to a good place. The last thing she needed was her family breathing down her neck, making her feel bad, but there they were panting away.
"I literally just got back to L.A. and I'm being asked to go to New York for Scott's restaurant opening," she said. "But what my family doesn't get is I'm going through a million different emotions in my head."
In other words: Back off! Kim and Kourtney had a point when they worried that Khloe was trying to be Lamar's everything. As he's lost so many people in his life, they thought Khloe was giving too much of herself to him at the expense of other relationships in her life -- namely them. But sometimes -- especially in hard times -- that's what it takes to make a marriage work. And they've certainly been through some hard times
After the traumatic move to Dallas then to be moved again so soon can't be easy. Throw in their reported fertility issues and longing for a baby, and they're dealing with some major issues. So if Khloe wasn't ready for a whirlwind of parties and a jaunt up to New York, you'd think they'd be more understanding. Instead they just attacked her.
As Khloe pointed out, it's not like Kim (whose last marriage lasted 72 days) or Kourtney (who doesn't even sleep in the same bed as Scott Disick) is any great role model for how to handle a relationship either. In the end, she stormed off saying, "So guess what, I am an Odom, bye Kardashians."
We know they eventually work things out, as Khloe and Lamar were there for the opening of RYU, and because they always do. But Khloe is right to tell her family to back off and to do what she needs to do to make her relationship work. Too many people let overbearing family members -- as well meaning as they may be -- interfere and causes problems instead of working it out as a couple first and foremost. So good for Khloe, and clearly it's good for her marriage too as she and Lamar are going strong. Maybe Kim and Kourt should be taking notes.
Do you think Khloe's family was out of line in pressuring her as much as they did? Do you think Khloe handled it well?
