'Life's a Tripp' Recap: Bristol Palin Still Desperately Needs Levi Johnston

by Ericka Sóuter on June 26, 2012 at 11:51 PM

bristol and trippEveryone knows Levi Johnston is no prize. Bristol Palin certainly drives that message home in this week's Life's a Tripp. She complains about him endlessly -- and understandably so. The guy knocks her up at 17, doesn't pay child support, poses in Playgirl, and writes a tell-all about her entire family. Not a keeper by any means.

But for all his faults, Bristol still desperately needs him and she knows it. She may be the eldest daughter of one of the most loved and hated women in America, but without Levi, she would be the most boring reality TV star of all time.

Honestly, there were moments in the show when I wished I were watching paint dry instead. Her big move to LA is already over and she is back in sleepy Wasilla. She visits her boring, wood-chopping pals, chats with her snarky sister Willow, and that's actually about it. I never thought I would long for the nasty nail-salon run-ins of Laguna Beach. At least that was good for some fierce eye rolling and icy stares.

I did get my hopes up as Bristol tried to orchestrate a rendezvous with Levi at a kiddie play place. There were a tense two minutes when you wondered what would happen if and when he showed. He didn't. The consolation prize: one end of a bitchy phone conversation with Levi's girlfriend Sunny.

Things don't even get interesting with her new man Gino, who she has dated on and off for years. Lifeless doesn't even begin to adequately describe this dude. Whether happy, angry, or excited, he delivers everything in a drowsy, monotone voice that makes him seem painfully uninterested in the world. He's around but he's not there, if you know what I mean.

There aren't even sparks when he suggested they become boyfriend-girlfriend. At least he cracked a smile as he asked, "Can we make it Facebook official?" And he is sweet with her kid. "I love Tripp, he's an awesome kid, he's a lot of fun," said Gino. "He totally has my heart." That's nice and all, but here's hoping for some Snooki-level drama next week.

Do think Bristol's life is interesting enough for TV?

I watch it and like it. It's better than jersey shore or those crappy housewife shows. Oh and she doesn't need an immature guy in her life. She needs space from dating for now.

It is wrong for Bristol to keep insulting Levi in front of Tripp. That is emotional child abuse.

Levi was set up. Either way, he was going to be shown in the worst possible light. Bristol knew that Levi had refused to come on the show, so it is cruel to tell Tripp that he is coming-- oh no he's not, what a bad Levi. If Levi had shown up, they would have edited the video to put him in an equally bad light. It was a cheap trick, and it is as bad as insulting Levi in front of Tripp. Bristol is operating at a four year old level, figuratively sticking her tongue out at Levi.
Stop blaming Levi! You had just as much responsibility as Levi had for using protection when you had sex. In your book you said that you were taking birth control pills and if you forgot to take your pill, it's just as much your fault. Levi didn't ruin your life. You and your controlling mother are ruining your life, and now your are damaging an innocent little boy who didn't ask to be born. How many programs and public humiliations will it take before your need for revenge has played itself out? It's childish, it's harmful, and it's hurting Tripp. GROW UP!

I couldn't even make it through a whole episode. Snooze! Basically it's an entire show for bashing Levi, and that's a damned shame. He's that baby's father no matter what, and Bristol seriously needs to grow up. And shut up. I hope she's enjoying her fifteen minutes....

Lydia is an obviously psychotic man-hater that keeps popping up on multiple posts on this blog...ignore her. She never has anything productive to say.

I think Levi likes selling $$$ the "Oh Poor Me, I can't see my Son" story in books and TV interviews more than he wants to help raise this child. Sunny, his pregnant girlfriend seems to jump front and center on TV interviews and contacts tabloids to sell her information a Bristol quickly too. Did she get pregnant by Levi for FAME Fortune? Now we see Bristol responding to the crap Levi has sold on her tv show for money. I think ALL the parties are forgetting Tripp but are filling their bank accounts.

They were both born in 1990, people! Geez....Bristol on October 18, 1990 and Levi on May 3, 1990. Since the baby was born in December 2008, BP likley got preggers in March when they were both 18.

Did you actually read Levi or Bristol's books? Bristol slams Levi constantly while Levi speaks quite lovingly of Bristol.

Also, Levi's very tasteful Playgirl photos helped him pay a big chunk of his child support. Now that he's realized his attorneys were in the Palin pocket all along, he's back to being regular Levi who can't get work now because he crossed the Palins. He's supposed to cough up $1750 a month for Tripp based on that one year of making good money... while Bristol keeps making bank whining about how the media won't leave her alone.

Bristol constantly slams Levi in public and I can't understand why she doesn't lose custody of him for doing so, since it's a clear violation of their agreement not to talk smack about one another in front of Tripp.

Also -- non-member lydia -- Levi didn't "rape" anyone and given that he's a little less than a year older than Bristol and they were both in their high teens, there was no "pedophilia" involved. How on earth do you call an 18-year-old having sex with his 17-year-old girlfriend "pedophilia?"
