'Teen Mom' Recap: Amber & Gary's Relationship Needs a Big Change

by Sasha Brown-Worsham on June 19, 2012 at 11:46 PM

FarrahThe third episode of Teen Mom's last season brought us deeply back into the lives of these girls we have all come to know so well. While Farrah was moving to Florida, Catelynn was graduating from high school, and Maci was following Ryan on vacation, Amber was trying to see baby Leah while she was in rehab.

Catelynn and Tyler have truly come so far in the past few years. They are still in love, which is lovely to see, but they are also making such good decisions, whether it's about finishing school or getting married (they want to wait) or even whether or not to get emotionally over the top when Butch (Tyler's dad) doesn't show up to high school graduation.

When Catelynn's mother said she was proud on this episode, it was easy to see why. I would be a proud mama, too!

Meanwhile Maci's decision to follow Ryan on vacation and Farrah's decision to get another dog both seemed a little ill-advised, even if both really came from good places in their hearts.

Did Farrah really need a new puppy after the debacle with her first one? Probably not. But hey, let's give her the benefit of the doubt. It does seem like not enough people have faith in Farrah and the fact is, she IS a good and responsible mom. Maybe she just needs the right dog for her (and let's hope this one is it!).

But it was (as usual) Amber Portwood's drama that was the most upsetting portion of the evening. Portwood never fails to break our hearts and this episode was no different.

Her love for her child is so obvious and the scenes of her, head in hands, so despondent without her daughter, were so painful to watch. Meanwhile, Gary's constant devotion to her and his desire to bring Leah out to California is totally commendable, if, perhaps, a bit premature.

As much as Amber loves her daughter, it seems like maybe the best thing for her is to totally focus on herself (obviously since we all know how rehab turned out). Rehab is all about confronting all the issues that caused a person to do drugs or drink. It's, unfortunately, almost impossible for Amber to do so while her daughter and boyfriend are in town.

My heart breaks for Gary because he loves her so much, but even his own mother knows they need to take a loooooong break (if not a forever one). They just push all the wrong buttons in one another.

I'd love to see a happy ending for Amber, but her road is still very, very long.

Do you think Amber should see Leah in rehab?

No i think she should focus on herself and making herself better for her daughter. this is a time out for her and she should take it. its a break from being a mother and healing the wounds that have opened themselves to far open. after rehab would be a good time to see leah, amber would be healed and in a better place and seeing leah after it all would be another reisurance that she's doing the right thing for her child. Gary only makes amber worse they are always fighting and always saying the wrong things. he needs to give amber space to get better no matter how much she misses leah. idk i think they are both better off with other ppl he obv got amber in this position and will only bring her back again.... :-(

After seeing the kind of cushy rehab Amber was in, it's not surprising to see that she failed and went to prison. Amber needs a tougher approach and that country club rehab was NOT for her, she could easily manipulate those people and it was hard to watch. Gary is a good caregiver to his daughter, but if he really has her best interests at heart, he will cut his relationship with Amber totally off, have limited visitations for her with Leah and move on with his and Leah's life. One more thing....did anyone else get the feeling from the last episode that Theresa is pregnant? Just a hunch...the pictures.....anyone? It has a tendency to happen after coupples adopt, especially when there hasn't been a definitive cause for their infertility. Catelynn's face when she first saw Theresa, Theresa's fuller look, and the fact that all the shots were cut at her waist...if so, great news for them!

I'm sorry but I just saw in US weekly that catelynn and tyler are pregnant and rushing to the alter. I mean, I know tabloids aren't necessarily always correct but the interview was coming from catelynn and tyler themselves.

Plenty of people have faith in Farrah. I think it's they way Farrah responds that makes it seem like they don't. Like when her mom was making conversation about how kids these days always need an eye on them, she flipped out and hung up on her. Her dad (who had just driven 5 days with all of her shit and helped her move in) asked what her plan was to get settled and kindly reminded her to look into schools for Sophia, she yelled at him too. She's so rude.

Actually the article in US Weekly was Catelynn and Tyler saying the article in IN TOUCH made her laugh because she is not pregnant and doesn't have any plans to get pregnant. As for Amber seeing Leah, I don't think it is a good time for that. She really needs to focus on getting herself better and know that all of this work is to make a better life for both her and Leah.

I cannot wait until Sophia gets old enough to treat Farrah the way she treats her parents!!  I would watch that show for sure!!!

I can't stand watching Farrah, the way she speaks to her parents is so disrespectful and rude. How does she expect to be treated like an adult when she can't speak in an adult manner, and Sophia is already sounding just like her.
