Hermione Granger is back! I mean -- Emma Watson is back. She's starring in a new movie, The Perks of Being a Wallflower. It's a movie about a tight group of misfit teens making their way through high school without the benefits of magic.
Emma introduced the trailer with her co-stars Logan Lerman and Ezra Miller at the MTV Movie Awards last night. Witness all the cliches of teen movies: Hallway bullies, angst, wild parties, the teacher who really understands. But someone sprinkled some fairy dust over this one because it looks all sparkly and enchanting in spite of the cliches. As Emma's character says, "Welcome to the Island of Misfit Toys."
Could it be? Yes, I do believe this is Harry Potter if everyone was a Muggle. It's familiar territory for Emma Watson, the lucky girl sandwiched between two cute boys. Logan Lerman plays the main character, Charlie. Emma and Ezra Miller play seniors who befriend him. Wallflower is based on a novel by the same title and apparently there's already a growing mob of fans salivating for September 14, when the movie opens.
You would need magic to get away with standing on the bed of a zooming truck like that. Kids, don't get any ideas!
Anyway, Logan Lerman may play the main character, but it looks like Ezra Miller steals the show. He starred in the god-awful art film We Need to Talk About Kevin (he attacks his school with a bow and arrow, an example of Waldorf education gone all wrong -- just kidding, Waldorf parents!) and actually managed to out-weird Tilda Swinton. That's a compliment, by the way. This is all to say this movie looks enchanting and I will definitely be watching it! Sometime in February 2013 on Netflix as per my usual.
Are you looking forward to seeing The Perks of Being a Wallflower?
