Madonna Wages War With Lady Gaga From Stage (VIDEO)

by Ericka Sóuter on May 29, 2012 at 6:24 PM

madonnaLooks like Madonna is trying to re-spark the controversy that Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" is a rip-off of "Express Yourself."

Days before her MDNA world tour kicks off in Tel Aviv, Madge was caught rehearsing a mash-up of the two very, very similar sounding tracks.

When Gaga first released her hit last year, she was criticized for copying the queen of pop, who offered this backhanded compliment in an interview with 20/20:

I thought, "What a wonderful way to redo my song." I mean, I recognized the chord changes. I thought it was ... interesting.

She also added:

I certainly think she references me a lot in her work. And sometimes I think it's amusing and flattering and well done. There's a lot of ways to look at it. I can't really be annoyed by it ... because, obviously, I've influenced her ...

Madonna diehards have long accused Lady Gaga of being an imitator, while the "Poker Face" singer's Little Monsters swear she's an innovator. Well, the leaked rehearsal footage shows just how seamlessly the songs blend together.

Of course some Lady Gaga fans may think Madonna is just paying homage to an equally dynamic diva. But if you listen carefully, you will hear her end the medley with the line from her Hard Candy track, "She's Not Me," which is a song about Madonna being copied by another woman. Total dig!

Hear for yourself:

What do you think? Is "Born This Way" a total rip-off of "Express Yourself"?

I just came from one of today's Cracked articles stating that apprantly Madonna is not afraid to rip someone off her self. She shouldn't talk.

I've never quit gotten Lady Gaga. I think she's WAY overrated. I think she's copying Madonna. Yes.

I second Sama- Madonna isn't that original, she claims to 'write' her own tracks and in reality she just hires good producers and forces them to give her greater than 50% writing credit bc she's Madonna.  and at this point, no music is original, everyone is copying someone else.  She should just get over it and attempt to do her own thing (although judging by her last album sales, that isn't going well)

Most pop music uses the same chord progressions, it's nothing new.  Madonna is just hurting because she realizes the only people who still buy her music are aging gay men.  I think she's a nasty woman who clearly forgets the world does not revolve around her and someone younger and more innately talented is taking over the pop world.

Lady Gaga can try all she wants but Madonna has already "been there and done that." Madonna is the innovator, Lady Gaga is the imitator.

Considering Madonna has been accused of plagarism many many times I don't think she's got any room to talk. She's a narcissist, and needs to get over herself.
