Raven Symone Comes Out About Gay Rumors: 'My Sexual Orientation is Mine'

raven symoneRaven Symone has always kept her private life just that - private. And the star has made it clear, that this isn't going to change just because a tabloid printed rumors that she's gay.

Addressing the issue, but not confirming her sexuality one way or the other, Raven tweeted:

"I'm living my PERSONAL life the way I'm happiest. I'm not one, in my 25 year career to disclose who I'm dating. and I shall not start now. My sexual orientation is mine, and the person I'm dating to know. I'm not one for a public display of my life."

It's a bold move for the actress. Not revealing her sexuality will definitely fuel the debate. But straight or gay, she has every right to keep that intensely personal information to herself, doesn't she?

People expect celebrities to live their lives like an open book. And yes, that is par for the course when you are a big star. Yet forcing someone to come out or talk about their sexuality when they are not ready seems to cross some invisible, ethical line. Shouldn't her fans just accept that for the time being, they will not get an answer?

Raven went on to tweet:

"However that is my right as a HUMAN BEing whether straight or gay. To tell or not to tell. As long as I'm not harming anyone. I am a light being made from love. And my career is the only thing I would like to put on display, not my personal life. Kisses!"

Whatever her preference behind closed doors, it has nothing to do with her talent. Is she any less funny? No? Is she any less likeable? Of course not. In fact, fans should adore Raven even more because of this headline-grabbing mess. She refuses to be bullied into revealing something she isn't ready to.  Bottom line, it's nobody's business but her own.

What do you think of Raven's response?

Good for her its her right to tell or not the public things about her personal life.

So now that she has basically told everybody to mind their own damn business, can we please move on to something else, anything else? I really don't understand how this has become such a huge issue in the first place. Seriously, aren't you guys going to be red-faced if she turns around and marries a MAN 6 months down the red? This line really gets me-

Do we badger straight people like this? No, because everybody just assumes that everyone else is straight until they do something to make you think otherwise.

How about this, instead of assuming someone is gay because of abc or this other guy is straight becuase of xyz, why don't we just look at everyone else as a PERSON first, free to live and love whomever they choose?

I think she's a has-been who is enjoying a spot of limelight and she won't give a definitive answer so long as she is getting the attention.

If you were right Rhonda, she wouldn't be so private about her personal life. People way less famous than her are all over the tabloids because they desperately try to put themselves in them. She could have tons of press if she chose to. But she doesn't because she's insane, as far as I can tell. She's a talented, pretty girl. Calling her a has-been kind of sounds bitter, I'm sorry.

She is awesome!! She has earned the right to be who she wants and do whatever she wants and nobody needs to know about it. I applaud her life choices what ever they may be. While Raven is going about her own business and doing great in her personal and professional life, people need to find a different target. Maybe someone like the upcoming "teen popstar who drinks and drives and causes a scene whenever she is out in public (not naming any names here), someone who has the need to get noticed in a negative light. Not someone who goes about their life quietly and with dignity. Good luck to you Raven in every thing you choose to do!

Dammit!!!! I have gone my whole life disliking Raven Symone just cause she irritated me when she was on the Cosby Show. This makes me like her! :(

She goes girl! Good for her, her personal life IS her, and she DOES have a right to keep it that way, PERSONAL :)

Exactly! We complaine when celebs seem to put their whole life out there. She is keeping her life private and we should respect that.
