Take L.A. Confidential and The Untouchables, stir in a mess of Tommy guns and fedoras, add an all-star cast, drop in the director of Zombieland, and what do you get? You get Gangster Squad, that's what, making an offer none of us can possibly refuse: IT'S A MOB FLICK WITH RYAN GOSLING.
I don't even know where to get started with all the awesome they managed to pack into one two-minute trailer, but I suppose the first thing that comes to mind is this: what the hell does Emma Stone have in her entertainment contract? Because I seriously want to get my hands on that "Must include at least one (1) scene of me making out with Ryan Gosling" clause.
The chemistry between Stone and Gosling is back in Gangster Squad, and even though we only get a few hints of their relationship in the trailer, it's pretty freaking hot. Stone plans Grace Faraday, who's hooked up with Sean Penn's Mickey Cohen character, and it looks like Gosling makes the incredibly ballsy (deadly?) move of horning in on his mob boss's girl. Penn is pitch-perfect as an East Coast gangster who comes to take what he wants from L.A., battling the LAPD and asserting his badassery as he goes:
“Back East, I was a gangster, out here, I’m a god.”

Oh yeah. I can already tell I'm going to love the dialogue in this one. ("A cop that’s not for sale is like a dog with rabies–you just gotta put him down.") And how about that scene with Gosling racking the shotgun at the end, before growling "Not anymore" and blowing that guy away? Damn, Gosling. You even make cold-blooded murder look sexy.
Also, I'm calling it: this is going to be the Year of the Brolin. Remember when he came out of nowhere and starred in like 10 awesome movies and then he sort of disappeared again? Between this and the Men in Black reboot, Brolin's going to be back on top of his game.
In conclusion: November 9, 2012. Be there, or be denied MOB GOSLING.
What do you think of the trailer?
