while i won't disagree that the timing works for his campaign strategy - - the very fact that he IS supportive of gay marriage potentially alienates any conservative supporters Obama may have had. so doesn't that sort of negate the nay-saying? i'm incredibly happy to hear of his stance and i'm glad that not only does he support it, but that he isn't worried about losing potential votes because of his 'liberal thinking'.
I agree with Dirtiekittie if he was doing it for the election well he just shot himself in the foot wouldnt you say? because since the it seems like a lot of people in the country dont agree with same sex marriage anyway so he just lost a lot of votes on that or maybe if he does believe he wont get another 4 years then hes going out saying how he feels now that his time is running short. in any event, im very happy he said it ive never seen what is so wrong with being gay and wanting the same legal rights as those in straight marriages hopefully as a nation were getting that stigma that being gay is a horrible thing
It is good to see that after intense political pressure that President Obama has finally come around to the Dick Cheney position on marriage equality.
If Obama really felt this way, he would have said so long ago. His good pal, Mr. Biden, shoved him in a corner the other day and Obama was forced to make a statement one way or another. I have nothing against gay marriage and yet... I don't feel this was a win today for anyone. The President is pandering for votes, in a week that otherwise has not been that positive for him in a media regard.
Great campaign strategy. I agree with the others. If his heart were in this he'd have done it a long time ago. It's just for votes.
