OMG. If you didn't see Saturday Night Live last night (Eli Manning hosted), you missed one of the best skits ever in the history of the show. It is the funniest thing I have seen since, well, Bridesmaids. And it's no wonder because Oscar-nominated Bridesmaids actress Kristen Wiig is one of the skit's stars and if you ask me, she's one of the funniest comedians out there -- and soooo much nicer than Chelsea Handler.
The faux ad is about what to give Mom for Mother's Day and shows dads and kids surprising mom with breakfast in bed, flowers, and gifts, but the problem is these moms don't want to bothered. They are, er, "enjoying" themselves while reading Fifty Shades of Grey.
Think vibrators, washing machines, and yellow rubber gloves.
Send your own kiddies out of the room and watch:
AWESOME.

I agree with the other commenters about the book not being anything special. There are a ton of erotic books. This is hardly the first and it's not a "new" thing.
However the SNL skit was hysterical.
I see no reason why this would be assumed to be any better.

This book is one of the most poorly written pieces I have ever read.
i've read a sample of 50 shades and all i can say is that i wrote better erotic fiction when i was a teenager...if i want good smut there are much better books out there :p SNL however, still funny as hell.

I look at this book like I look at Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Even kids who "don't read" will read Wimpy Kid and maybe they'll enjoy it enough to get interested in reading other books. 50 Shades is basically written for women who don't or can't read (BTW, love how she throws in big words every once in awhile like that will make the book look smarter. Avuncular, really?) But maybe when they're done, they'll seek out more interesting, well written books.
idk. i loved these 3 books ALOT. it wasnt even about the sex scenese (although they were nice) the story was touching, and i couldnt put it down. that video is HILARIOUS. ahahah love it.
