Oprah Doesn't Have the Midas Touch After All (VIDEO)

oprah winfreyEven though the OWN network has been getting terrible ratings for almost a year now, I never thought Oprah would admit to its shortcomings. Not because she's egotistical, but because I just assumed she'd turn her network around before things got worse. Everything she touches usually turns to gold, so why would her lifestyle TV channel be any different? Welp. It would seem that the good O's luck has finally run out. During an appearance on CBS This Morning, Opes admitted to host and best friend Gayle that the Oprah Winfrey Network is, uh, kind of a big fat mess.

Oprah goes as far as to say that if she were writing a book about her experience launching her own network, it would be called 101 Mistakes. Gulp.

OWN is a disaster. Between the firings and the less-than-inspired content, the programming has been underwhelming. No one's really tuning in, and worse, no one really cares that it's tanking.

Oprah says it's always been a dream of hers to start her own network and now that it's flailing, I'm sure it can't be easy to bear. She told Gayle that her biggest mistake was launching the network when it wasn't yet ready. She likens the experience to a bride walking down the aisle while thinking, "No, I can't do this. I'm not ready!" but goes through with it anyway. Not many successful marriages, or business ventures, have a happy ending when they have such an uncertain beginning.

Even though Oprah doesn't take the opportunity on the morning show to give us one of her famous, uplifting talks about how everyone makes mistakes, and how all we can do in life is learn from our experiences, I think she'd appreciate us walking away from OWN with our heads held high.

If you go for one of your dreams and it doesn't work out? Eh! At least you went for it and gave it your all. And that's all that matters, right, Opes?

I like Oprah. I grew up with her on my tv as did many of you ladies. I liked the idea of OWN as well, but was disappointed to find it so dull and at times, just downright smug. I don't have any interest in a sit down with Jay- Z bragging about how amazing he thinks he is and I really cannot stomach all the weird New Age crap she has been pushing the past few years. But it is nice to see her admit to the shortcomings of her endeavor. Opes got wierd on me but I still love her.

She started a network to showcase all of her favorite people. I could care less if she is losing pmoney. I'm thankful she finally ended that show of hers.

Oprah to me is really just so 90's.  I stopped watching her tv show like 12 years ago and I tried to watch her network but it's nothing but repeats over and over.

I was never interested in her network. I knew it would fail. I think her mistake was the timing.
