Ashley Olsen Quits Acting in One of Hollywood's Most Tragic Losses

Eye Roll 106

In what is surely the most shocking celebrity revelation of 2012, Ashley Olsen has announced that she plans to focus on the fashion empire she's created with her twin sister Mary-Kate.

While the diminutive blonde has been best known for her many contributions to the world of cinema and television—starting, of course, with her famous role on Full House and branching out to such critically-acclaimed shows as Mary-Kate and Ashley In Action! and Two of a Kind (not to mention her uncredited part in Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle)—Olsen revealed that it's finally time to step down from her position as Hollywood's most respected A-lister performer.

Tragically for the millions who have long worshipped her brilliant talent and her status as the unparalleled master of character, accents, and genres, Olsen says that she's never going to act again.

The 25-year-old first gained worldwide attention along with her twin Mary-Kate when the two were just 9 months old, and the two continued to perform together until the enormously well-received 2004 film New York Minute ("To say that New York Minute is a vehicle for the Olsen sisters is perhaps a slight to four-wheeled conveyances of all kinds."— Toronto Star).

While Ashley Olsen was originally beloved for her ability to have blonde hair and occasionally utter the phrase "You got it, dude," her Hollywood star continued to rise at breakneck speed. She even became an executive producer whose name has been attached to such videos as You're Invited to Mary-Kate & Ashley's School Dance and You're Invited to Mary-Kate & Ashley's Fashion Party.

However, according to the interview she recently gave ELLE U.K., she eventually began to struggle with her role in the entertainment world ... and ultimately decided to retire as an actress:

It was time to step behind the process. I wanted to work on other things. It doesn't mean I'm not interested in Hollywood, I like the way it operates and the people who are involved and the sense of possibility. But if I ever do get back in, it's not going to be as an actress.

Thankfully, this doesn't mean that Olsen is retreating from fame altogether. She will still run the high fashion business she created with her sister that includes the lines Elizabeth & James and The Row.

Still, it's hard to imagine Hollywood without Ashley Olsen. So many wonderful roles, so many amazing films. But according to her, she's ready for the next stage in her life:

I don't have to be a pretty face. I've done that, but now it's important and liberating to be on the other side of the lens. I don't like to be the center of attention anymore.

Godspeed, Ashley. We were blessed to have you in the entertainment world for as long as we did.

How do you plan to move on from the upsetting news that Ashley Olsen is quitting acting?

Actually, as a kid, I really like the Olsen twins and the fact that the both seem to be relatively unruined by growing up in the spot light is kind of nice. I don't blame them for not acting bc they wern't going to be able to reinvent themselves as actors. Nobody want to see a serious Olsen. The fact that they haven't blown all their money, gone to jail, rehab or been on celebrity aprentice is a pretty high commendation.
