RIP Davy Jones: Marcia Brady Wasn’t the Only Girl Who Loved You! (VIDEO)

This Just In 18

davy jones marcia bradyDavy Jones, lead singer of The Monkees, TV star, and teenage heartthrob of the '60s, died Wednesday in a Florida hospital after suffering a heart attack. He was 66. He is survived by his third wife, Jessica Pacheco-Jones, and four daughters from two previous marriages.

There are many people who wouldn't have known who Davy Jones was were it not for a classic episode of The Brady Bunch in which Marcia Brady is president of a Davy Jones fan club and tries to get the singer to perform at her school prom. He not only agrees to perform, he asks her to go with him, and then she kisses him -- on both cheeks! Are you itching to see the clip right about now? Well, you're in luck ...

Here it is:

Awwww. You know, Davy Jones and the rest of The Monkees got a lot of flak because fans accused them of completely ripping off the Beatles (which they sort of did). And, critics often dismissed them as a fake band who was thrown together just for television (which they kinda were, at least at first). But here's the thing: The Monkees were really popular, as evidenced by the fact they continued to tour and record even after the show had ended. And, they had a ton of great songs, including three No. 1 hits: "Daydream Believer," "Last Train to Clarksville," and "I'm a Believer."

Plus, there's something so incredibly wonderful about his scene with Marcia. Even if you didn't grow up at that time, there's something so sweet and innocent about his performance that takes us back to high school prom, unrequited crushes, and first heartbreaks and, most important, of being young and in love ... and now I'm feeling all weepy and nostalgic.

Ultimately, it's proof that Davy Jones is a true performer who will be missed fondly by many.

What's your favorite Monkees' song?

Daydream Believer - my son and I just heard it Monday night at a restaurant - and my son asked - what the heck kind of song is that?  He thought it was pretty goofy.

I said it was the kind I could listen to w/my son w/o the worry of "bitch" and "ho" being said.  Sweet innocent music like that is so rare these days.

I grew up watching the Monkees reruns on tv. We still watch them on Antenna Tv. RIP Davy!

Davy Jones was on Dr. Phil a few months back, and his slutty-looking Asian golddigger wife was bringing him on the show to complain about how he doesn't straighten his bath towel out on the towel rack properly.

She basically was calling him a slob and saying he needs to clean up after himself. She should clean his house without a complaint. He was in the Monkees. Who TF if she?

I bet her nagging have him a heart attack.

I had the biggest crush on Davy when I was all of 6 years old.  I had this old Monkee's concert t shirt that I slept in every single night....
