I never would've pegged the two for a love connection, but their appearance on Ellen to promote upcoming flick The Lorax (both stars provide voices for animated characters) is proof positive: Swift and Efron make super-adorable music together.

Literally! Taylor apparently used the commercial break to give Zac a quickie guitar tutorial, and the actor learns fast ... fast enough to pull off a modified version of Foster the People's "Pumped Up Kicks" that was pretty impressive (I suspect they spent more time rehearsing than they let on).

And now that I see the couple side-by-side, it's obvious ...

Not only are Taylor Swift and Zac Efron an item, it seems like they actually should be an item. Meaning, it looks like they could maybe kinda sorta work. For real.

Of course they're not admitting to their item status yet -- in fact, they went out of their way to evade Ellen's questions on the subject with their impromptu song lyrics.
