The marriage of Kate Middleton and Prince William reignited the world's obsession for all things royal. So, naturally, there's a(nother) movie being made. This one isn't about the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, though. It's about the O.G. Princess. Princess Diana. And as for the actress chosen to play the coveted role? Naomi Watts.
I know, I'm just as confused as you are.
I'm not a casting director, so I can't really tell you why Watts was chosen, but I can tell you that, obvs, she's psyched. "It is such an honor to be able to play this iconic role," Watts said in a statement. "Princess Diana was loved across the world, and I look forward to rising to the challenge of playing her on screen."
It's not that I don't like Naomi Watts as an actress. Actually, quite the contrary. I thought she was tremendous in Mullholland Drive and I Heart Huckabees. I just don't see her as Princess Diana -- like, at all. And it isn't solely based on the fact that, aside from her blonde hair, Britishness, and two eyeballs, she literally bears no resemblance to Lady Di whatsoever; it's just ... she doesn't exude royalty. Zooey Deschanel is a lovely and talented brunette actress, but you wouldn't have her play Kate Middleton, would you? Of course you wouldn't -- because it just doesn't make sense.
As for who would be a good Princess Diana goes, well, I'm not sure. Like I said, I'm not a casting director and it's much easier to simply sit behind my laptop and criticize. Perhaps Naomi's good pal, Nicole Kidman? Uma Thurman (who does bear somewhat of a resemblance)? Kate Winslet? I don't know. All I know is that no matter who plays Diana in the movie, I'll still be watching.
Do you think Naomi Watts is a good choice to play Princess Diana?

She's Australian not British. That being said I think that Carey Mulligan would have been a better choice.
I know nothing about that actress so I have no idea.
nope
Not a good pick.
Diana was 36 when she died. Naomi Watts looks 10 years older than that.
To the people who are saying she's not British - maybe yall should check YOUR facts. She was born in England and spent the first 10-15 years of her life there. Funny how yall come down on people for not checking their facts, when you haven't even checked yours! Sheesh!
And regarding the casting - I don't personally think there's anyone currently in hollywood that is a "perfect" fit for Princess Diana. I don't think Naomi Watts will do a bad job, I just think it's an impossible role to fill. I can't think of someone who would do a better job than Naomi Watts in this role tho.
I want to know what OG princess means
