jwowwBad news today for Jersey City, New Jersey residents. Their mayor has just given MTV and 495 productions the OK to film a Snooki and JWoww reality spin-off within their town limits. The setting for the ladies' reality show has been somewhat up in the air until now -- producers didn't have an easy time finding a place that would let them film the girls tearing it up. The mayor of neighboring town, Hoboken, was vehemently opposed to the idea and said he'd aggressively take legal action if any of the spin-off was taped in his city. Then the mayor of Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania offered up his town as a location, but ultimately Jersey City was decided upon.

I hope Jersey City knows what it is they're getting into, because a Jersey Shore producer recently told 20/20 that it takes 700 hours of footage to get one airable hour of television.

That means Snooki and JWoww are going to be out in Jersey City constantly, trying to either find drama or make their own. They're smart enough reality vets by now to know that something interesting needs to happen or else the viewers won't tune in, so I'm sure these ladies are poised and ready to cause a ruckus throughout J.C.

It's easy to understand why Hoboken wanted nothing to do with them, but it's harder to comprehend why Jersey City would want them. Is it for the fame? Would notoriety actually benefit a town to the point where more people would want to live and spend their money there?

The mayor said, "My view is the more people that see anything about Jersey City and see what we have in Jersey, the better it is for Jersey City." I'm not so sure about that -- what's so appealing about Snooki peeing herself in one of J.C.'s bars? -- but hopefully he's right.

In the very least, more gym, tan, and laundry facilities might open up in town -- Snooki and JWoww need some options.
