Last night on the season seven premiere of The Real Housewives of Orange County, it was like poof! and all of a sudden Heather Dubrow was a new housewife. There was no gradual introduction into the group; rather one minute she was turning up her nose at a $4.9 million piece of property, and the next she was in a limo with Tamra Barney and Peggy Tanous on the way to Vicki Gunvalson's party.
We know she's thin, rich, and "probably a bitch," according to Tamra, but what else do we know about this brave new soul willing to join one of the most catty and aggressive groups of Housewives there is? She seems much too normal and classy on the surface to subject herself to their drama, but what's she really all about? And more importantly, can she really deliver the drama? Here are five fascinating things we've learned about new Housewife, Heather Dubrow:
1. She's loaded.
Okay, we knew she was rich. Anyone who eschews $4.9 million pieces of property because they can see rooftops obviously is. But she's REALLY rich. According to WetPaint, she herself is worth $4 million, and her plastic surgeon husband is worth about $8 million. So combined ... they're stinking rich.
2. She has acting cred.
She studied musical theatre at Syracuse then had a slew of stints on shows from Divorce Court to That's Life to Jenny McCarthy's show, Jenny.
3. She had no idea what she was getting herself into.
In an interview with The Orange County Register, Dubrow says she never watched a single episode of RHWOC before she started taping it. She says she saw only one single scene on YouTube (the wine throwing scene), and that was it. I find it hard to believe; how could NOT want to see what you were in for? But that's what she says.
4. She's a former beauty queen.
In 1989 she competed in the Miss New York State pageant as Miss Greater Syracuse. She won Miss Congeniality ... which doesn't seem very Housewife-like now, does it?
5. She was rejected as a Housewife previously.
She says three or four years ago, she was approached to be on RHWOC, but in the end was told no thanks because she was "too New York." Maybe a few more sunny years in Calif. is all she needed. She told the OC Register that she actually approached the producers this time, but to pitch them another show about her and some friends opening a restaurant. They said no to that show, but one thing led to another, and here she is our newest Housewife.
As fascinating as all this is, I still don't see much drama potential for her or get exactly what she's going to add to the show. She just seems too tied up, while someone more along the lines Brandi Glanville could have really reved things up. But we shall see ...
